Academic Fair for Fall Quarter

May 11, 4:00 - 6:00 pm, CRC

This is your chance to meet faculty teaching Fall Quarter programs and classes, ask questions, and perhaps pick up course information such as a syllabus. Before the fair, read the catalog and start creating a list of programs you might want to take. Then, use the Fair to talk with faculty and get more information about these programs.

Fall Registration Week is May 16-20

Registration for seniors starts Monday, May 16, juniors on Tuesday, May 17, sophomores on Wednesday, May 18, freshmen on Thursday, May 19.
Popular programs and classes can and do fill in a matter of minutes, so it's crucial that you be at a computer, ready to register at 8:00 am on your registration day.
Registration tips from Academic Advising:
  • Make sure you're checking your Evergreen e-mail regularly.  Registration will send you a message letting you know when your time ticket is posted.
  • Once you receive this e-mail, check your time ticket in my.evergreen.edu to verify your class level and what day you register.
  • Check to ensure you don't have any holds on your account. If you do, they'll show up in a yellow "To Do" box on the right side of your main my.evergreen.edu screen.
  • Write down the CRN numbers for several options.  Make sure you have the fall CRN that corresponds to your class level as shown on your time ticket!
  • If you don't get into your first choice, waitlist yourself and immediately register for your second choice. Academic advisors will be glad to help you find some back-up options, and to give you some sense of how likely it is you'll get into your waitlisted program by September.
Have questions or unsure what to take? Academic Advising can help!  Find us in Library 2153 or online at www.evergreen.edu/advising.

TRiO Students Gain Acceptance to Graduate Programs

Now is the time when students begin to hear about graduate school acceptances for fall 2016. TRiO would like to highlight three of its participants who have recently received good news.
Sarahann Swain came to Evergreen as a transfer student from Centralia College in fall of 2013 to study poetics, linguistics and rhetoric.  She has been planning to pursue graduate studies and become a professor since she started her academic journey.  This fall she will enter the Master of Fine Arts program in Creative Writing at Columbia University in New York.
Madeline Rider transfered to Evergreen in fall 2014, having attended Shoreline and Portland Community Colleges. Her programs at Evergreen have focused on Native American Studies and she is one of the coordinators of the Native Student Alliance.  She is also the lead Outreach and Retention Intern for TRiO Student Success.  Madeline has been accepted to the Master of Social Work program (concentration in children, families and youth) at Portland State University.
Amy Walsh arrived at Evergreen as a freshman and has been with TRiO her entire time at Evergreen.  She was a GearUp student and has been involved in the Gateways for Incarcerated Youth program while pursuing her teaching endorsement requirements.  Amy has been accepted to Evergreen’s Master in Teaching program where she will prepare to become a middle school humanities teacher.  Her goal is to teach in underserved schools.

TRiO Student Success Program Receives Additional Funding for 2016-2017

The TRiO Student Success program at Evergreen will receive nearly $10,000 in additional grant funds  for the 2016-17 academic year as a result of increased federal funding. This funding will enable the TRiO program to offer a comprehensive week-long residential bridge program to 25 incoming first-year students. Over the course of an academically intensive week, students will learn strategies to master the college-level reading and writing expectations of many academic programs.
Additionally, the week will enable TRiO advisors to provide in-depth curricular advising sessions. These sessions will help students understand the importance of making intentional decisions when planning their academic trajectory at Evergreen. The residential component will round out a comprehensive experience for the students by creating a holistic learning community for TRiO students to thrive inside and outside of the classroom.
The program is tentatively scheduled for September 13th-18th, 2016. Please contact the TRiO Student Success program for more details (360) 867-6464.
Since 1979 The Evergreen State College’s TRiO grants have supported our commitment to education and empowerment of individuals from traditionally underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds.  Learn more about the Evergreen TRiO Program at: http://www.evergreen.edu/trio.
