Using UMKC Connect Means GREAT Communication with Students!

Now is the time of the semester to let students know how they are doing in your course. UMKC Connect is the name of our university’s EAB/Starfish retention software module. It gives you a convenient way to keep track of your students – raising flags when you observe a pattern of behavior that concerns you, ensuring that the people on campus who can intervene are aware.  It also allows your students to easily book an appointment with you or someone else who can help.
UMKC Connect contains features that will allow UMKC faculty and staff to achieve the following goals:
  • Improve communication between advisors, students, instructors
  • Improve access to support services, advisors and/or faculty
  • Allow electronic access to appointment scheduling
  • Clear identification of resources for specific courses
  • Increase advising efficiency
  • More easily identify students needing assistance
  • Re-enforce course expectations and use of technology
  • Craft an education plan to graduation

For additional information or links to documents that will help you get started, please visit the UMKC Connect page.

Entrepreneurship Innovation Grants

To expand entrepreneurship opportunities across UMKC, the “Entrepreneurship Innovation Grants” (EIG) program was launched in 2021 with support from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. With continued support from the Foundation, we are proud to again provide new opportunities for funding for technology commercialization and cross-campus entrepreneurship initiatives. Our comprehensive view of entrepreneurship promotes growth mindset, innovation, new venture creation, social impact, self-employment, and exploration of market viability for technologies.

For the 2024 EIG funding period, up to $500,000 will be allocated. We seek diversity in the nature and scope of proposals from faculty or staff in academic or other units, centers, or institutes. There are two grant categories for the 2024 grant period - Technology Commercialization and Program and Professional Development
The team will be hosting 2 information sessions via Zoom. Click link to join. Each information session will have a short presentation and an opportunity to ask questions.
The application period is now open. Proposals must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. on March 15, 2024. More information and an application form are available on the EIG program website.
