Note from our Office
Hello everyone,
My name is Kenedi Vande Hey, and I’ve been given the opportunity to work with Calumet County as this year's 4-H Summer Intern!
A little bit about myself, for those who don’t know me, I've grown up in Calumet County and have been an active 4-H member for 14 years in the Sunset Lake 4-H club. Over this course of time, I have dedicated my time to dairy, showing market hogs, art projects, and baking. I just finished my first year of college at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a degree in Art Education.
With this experience, I would hope to gain more knowledge on communicating and interacting with youth as I believe it will help me with my future career goals of teaching. Within my 4-H career, I have helped run various activities within my club, set up different art-related projects within my club, and participate in different experiences 4-H has provided for me. This internship opportunity will allow me to further my knowledge when working with youth as well as apply this towards my current college degree. Not only will this opportunity allow me to educate myself about youth but it will also expand my knowledge of 4-H through a different aspect. I am thrilled to have this opportunity to plan, promote, and facilitate summer programs and trips throughout Calumet County and work with our youth to provide them with these summer opportunities!
Sincerely,
Kenedi Vande Hey

How Members & Clubs can Get Ready for the Calumet County Fair 2024
It may only be June, but there are a handful of things your 4-H Club is able to do already to help get ready for the Calumet County Fair scheduled for August 30 - September 2. This includes Club planters and the Club Billboard Contest. More information on these can be located at the following link:
Also, please save the date for Advance Judging set for Saturday, August 24 from 9am-2pm. This includes all non-animal projects, with the exception for Foods & Nutrition and Plants & Soil Science. Those exhibits are judged on Thursday, August 29 from 4-8pm.
Here are some great questions to practice with your 4-H member to help them get ready for the fair:
- What’s your name?
- What grade are you in school?
- What got you interested in this project?
- How many years have you taken the project?
- How long have you been in this project?
- Tell me what you like most about this project.
- Tell me about this exhibit.
- Where did you make this exhibit?
- How did you . . . ?
- When did you . . .?
- What type of tools or equipment did you use?
- What problems did you have?
- What worked and didn’t work?
- What was the most difficult part?
- If you could make this exhibit again, how would you change it?
- What is something you learned with this exhibit?

Inaugural Youth in Governance Program
We wanted to celebrate and welcome our 4-H members who are now part of the Calumet County Youth in Governance Program! This is a brand new program that was designed to get local youth involved and excited about local government. As a part of this program, they will develop their leadership, critical thinking, and networking skills as well as gain knowledge on county government. These 6 youth will sit on County Committees and bring youth voice into the space where change is being made. They are on the Administrative Services Committee, the Public Safety Committee, and the Health and Human Services Board for their one-year terms. They are able to have an advisory vote on their committees and join in on discussions on issues that affect our County! We are excited to have them be a part of this pilot program and wish them the best!
