Team of PDX People Demonstrate Exemplary Customer Service
When his adult son – struggling with substance dependency and mental health challenges – ended up at PDX with no phone, money or way to get home, Robert connected with Port of Portland police officer Pete Brenner (he/him), Delta Air Lines agent Dena Neubaum (she/her) and Port of Portland communications center staff Noah Juarez (he/him), Haley Verbrigghe (she/her), Jeffrey Yates (he/him) and Tia Davies (she/her). This team of PDX people help Robert's son get home safely, while keeping Robert informed every step of the way.
Robert shared his appreciation for the team of PDX People that assisted him:
Had it not been for Dena’s assistance, the Delta ticket and gate agents and the Port of Portland employees, my son would likely never have been able to navigate the complexities of this unscheduled and unplanned trip in his confused state of mind.
I remain ever grateful for the assistance provided by these incredible people – their actions reflect the highest standards of professionalism and caring for the well-being of others. My heart is warmed knowing the sterling character of the people that work at the Portland Airport. In my opinion, they are the best ambassadors the City of Portland could ever hope to have.
My sincere appreciation to all of you who maintain the wonderful culture of customer service at PDX.”

PDX People: Meet Scott Martin, Lead Janitor at PDX
Making PDX the best it can be takes a team of many, and the Port of Portland works with a wide variety of businesses to make that happen. This includes Relay Resources, a nonprofit organization based in Portland, which has provided janitorial services at the airport as well as at the Port's marine terminals, Troutdale Airport and Hillsboro Airport for more than 25 years. Scott Martin, a lead janitor, has worked at PDX through Relay for 15 years. He wanted to work there ever since he could; his grandmother served as his inspiration. She also worked as a janitor at PDX and always looked forward to going to work – as does Scott – finding something new to enjoy every day. Read Scott's full story.

PDX Partners with Portland Winter Light Festival
As you drive along Airport Way this week, you’ll see Concourse E awash in lights representing roses, mountains, water and even the distinctive PDX carpet. These colors of our region are part of an airport partnership with the Willamette Light Brigade’s Portland Winter Light Festival, which brings a warm glow to the city during the darkest months of the year. Designed by Steven Harper of Indigo Design LLC, "Elevation" has seven distinct lighting scenes and uses vertical strips of colored light to echo the visual experience of landing at PDX and touring the natural diversity that is uniquely Oregon.
Want to see the lights in action? Watch this timelapse video of the display. Learn more about this partnership and the free, family-friendly festival – on now through Saturday, Feb. 12 – that connects community and enriches the public realm through artful lighting.

Picture This: Snag Your Own Hello, B Poster
In December, we said hello to the completely redeveloped and expanded Concourse B, which included new gates devoted to Alaska and Horizon regional routes.
To mark the milestone, we designed and printed a commemorative newspaper illustrated by local artists along with an accompanying poster.
Want to own a piece of the magic? Head over to baggage claim and say "hello" to the volunteers in the information booths – they'll be happy to hand you a copy. If it isn't staffed at the moment, you can enter the booth to take a copy from the back counter.
Black History Month over red, yellow and green stripes.
Black History Month 2022 and Focusing on Black Health and Wellness
Each year, Black History Month (nationally recognized in 1976) shines a light on a great patriarch in American history: Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson, historian, author, journalist and founder of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, now known as the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH).
In 1926, what is now Black History Month began as one week  ASALH chose the second week of February to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. The event inspired schools and communities nationwide to organize local celebrations, establish history clubs and host performances and lectures.
Today, Black History Month is a time to honor the contributions and legacy of African Americans across U.S. history and society—from activists and civil rights pioneers such as Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X and Rosa Parks to leaders in industry, politics, science, culture and more.
Learn more about Black History Month, Dr. Woodson’s legacy in acknowledging and promoting the remarkable achievements of Black Americans and this year’s national theme of Black health and wellness.

Not all our PDX co-workers are of the human variety – a few of them are four-legged and downright furry. As we approach Valentine's Day, we're saying "Be Mine!" to Port of Portland Police Officer Rema Gossman's K9 Mine, who basked in the recent glow of a double rainbow at PDX. If you have a photo of life around PDX, email it to PDX People Communications – we might use it in a future PDX in Pictures.
