With the reunification of UT’s two campuses in Knoxville, faculty at the University of Tennessee’s Institute of Agriculture can now access proposal development support provided by UT’s Office of Research and Engagement. Two researchers who recently accessed support for large, complex proposals were Shigetoshi Eda and Jon Beever.

Four Students Awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowships

Four University of Tennessee, Knoxville students have been selected to be a part of the 2021 National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program. The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program supports outstanding graduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields who are pursuing research-based graduate degrees.

UT has earned a 2022 U.S. News Best Graduate Schools designtation from U.S. News and World Report. Colleges as a whole are ranked based on a variety of factors, including peer and recruiter perception, research expenditures, doctoral degrees granted, and enrollment.

ORE and UTIA are partnering to present Virtual SPARKS: Achieving Food Security on Friday, Apr. 23, from 2–4 p.m. SPARKS (Seeking Partnerships to Advance Research, Knowledge, and Science) events facilitate new collaborations among faculty and connect disciplines with common interests or research opportunities.

Six seniors have been recognized as Torchbearers, UT's highest undergraduate honor. Since 1968, the Torchbearer statue—UT’s official symbol—has stood on campus with a plaque stating the Volunteer Creed: “One that beareth a torch shadoweth oneself to give light to others,” a physical reminder of the values that are central to UT.

The Science Alliance has announced a call for proposals for the Support for Affiliated Research Teams (StART) award. Those interested can apply via InfoReady starting Monday, March 22. The deadline for submissions is May 3, 2021. Typical awards are $100K and each team must include principal investigators from both UT and ORNL researchers.
