President Mantella at her investiture
President Mantella Announces Lifetime Resource for Alumni and More
During her investiture address on November 15, President Philomena V. Mantella was joined by students, community members, leaders, and more as she outlined two initiatives designed to strategically position Grand Valley as a "breakout university." These initiatives include the Laker Lifetime Learning Account, a fund designed to help Lakers continue their education, and the establishment of a talent epicenter, a digital and physical space for students and community members to collaborate.

Two Grand Valley Alumni Selected for Prestigious International Program
Alan Carter, '19, and Cullin Flynn, '17, have both been named Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange fellows to Germany. The highly competitive experience includes an intensive eight-week language training phase, one semester of study at a German university, technical, or professional school, and concludes with a semester-long paid internship with a German non-profit, NGO, corporation or public institution.

GVSU to lead in K-12 computer science curriculum coordination
Grand Valley to Lead K-12 Computer Science Curriculum Coordination
Grand Valley will partner with Code.org and the West Shore Educational Service District in order to help carry out the mission of the MiSTEM Network, the state initiative to strengthen STEM education.
"This partnership showcases the expertise that Grand Valley has in computer science education," said Kris Pachla, director of the Regional Math and Science Center.

Faculty Member's Play About Ford, Social Justice Keeps Gaining Audience
A play written by Grand Valley's Allison Metz, associate professor of theatre, continues to gain popularity across the state of Michigan. The show, which tells the story of President Gerald R. Ford and an African American teammate on the University of Michigan football team, has exceeded expectations with continued interest of additional showings.
Grand Valley collaborated with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation and Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum in order to bring the show to life, and are grateful to see the positive momentum the show has gained in its two-year lifespan.

Women's Soccer Captures Sixth National Title
Congratulations to GV Women’s Soccer on their 2019 National Championship, the sixth in program history. A 1-0 win in double OT over Western Washington brings the trophy to 
Allendale! The Lakers are National Champions for the first time since 2015, ending their season 25-1-0.

GVSU cross country runners at nationals
Cross Country Teams Finish Second, Fourth at National Championships
Grand Valley has a lot to celebrate after the men's and women's cross country teams finished the season at the NCAA Division II National Championships in Sacramento, California. The women's team placed second with a total of 87 points while the men claimed fourth place with 177 points. Congratulations, Lakers!

Club Sport Highlight: Women's Rugby Team Makes History
The Grand Valley Women's Rugby Club enjoyed many firsts this season, including a division title and going the farthest the Lakers have ever gone in the National Tournament. The team was able to bring in 292 points over the course of the season while holding their opponents to 138 points. Only six of their members were seniors this year, so the team is looking forward to growing stronger and having even more record-breaking seasons!
