Recognising researchers in service: introducing the EMCR Peer Development Awards

Across the University, individual researchers and EMCR groups are leading activities and initiatives to support their peers in unique and impactful ways. Whether it's designing workshops, planning events or building networks, the inaugural Peer Development Awards are a chance to recognise individual researchers and EMCR groups for the outstanding contributions they make to their community.

The individual awards will grant $1,000 in research or professional development funds and a $250 personal gift card to the successful recipients. The network award will provide $1,000 in funds to support the activities of that EMCR network.

We encourage nominations from researchers and networks who deserve a light to shine on the support they provide. Nominations close Monday 11 May 2026.

Community and Leadership Portfolio - Seed and Scale Grants

The Community and Leadership Portfolio Seed and Scales grants program is a targeted, tiered funding mechanism that enables faculty, school and PSU-led initiatives to advance the University’s Community and Leadership Roadmap across the three pillars: we lead for good; we are curious and collegiate; we all belong. The program offers three small to medium funding tiers, supporting initiatives at different stages of maturity.

HDR/ECR Mentoring Program

This six-month program provides ECRs with an opportunity to develop mentoring capabilities, leadership skills, and cross-faculty networks by mentoring PhD candidates in navigating post-PhD pathways, academic career norms, navigating difficult situations, and other topics. Mentees and mentors will be matched and provided guidance and training on making the most of the sessions.

University of Sydney – New York University 2026 Ignition Grants

Applicants are encouraged to submit funding proposals for innovative and sustainable programs built around collaborative research linking the University of Sydney and New York University. Projects supported by Ignition Grants are expected to lead to joint publications, other research outputs, and/or proposals for external funding to support continued collaboration.

RDU Regional Travel Grants

The RDU Regional Travel Grants enable greater access to the Researcher Development Unit's in person events for researchers at regional University of Sydney campuses. The scheme will award funds toward return economy airfares to attend an eligible RDU event at Camperdown campus.
