Bishop Stika statement on USCCB actions
Bishop Richard F. Stika has issued this statement regarding actions by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops following its General Assembly in Baltimore this week. The bishops overwhelmingly approved a series of new measures to strengthen the Church's commitment to deal with the abuse issue.

Griffith, Hernandez continue path to priesthood with diaconate ordinations tomorrow 
Bishop Richard F. Stika will ordain Zachary Griffith and Alexander Hernandez to the transitional diaconate on Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Knoxville. Ordination to the transitional diaconate is one of the final steps for seminarians studying for the priesthood. All are invited to attend Saturday's Mass. The Mass will also be streamed live on DioKnox TV, the diocesan YouTube channel, beginning at 10:45 a.m.

Father David Carter offers prayer at U.S. House
Father David Carter, rector of the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul in Chattanooga, opened Wednesday's session of the U.S. House of Representatives with a prayer that was televised by C-SPAN. Diocesan-wide confirmation Mass for adults
held on Pentecost
Bishop Richard F. Stika and Cardinal Justin Rigali confirmed 53 adults from 22 parishes on Pentecost Sunday, June 9, at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The confirmandi are adults who had received the sacraments of baptism, first Communion, and reconciliation but had not received the sacrament of confirmation.

MelchizeTrek offers wilderness experience for men discerning vocations
The MelchizeTrek is a weeklong backpacking trip in the Savage Gulf for young men ages 14-21 who are open to considering a priestly vocation. Daily activities will include Holy Mass, praying the Divine Office, and a Holy Hour. This year's MelchizeTrek will be June 29-July 6, with 5-7 miles of hiking per day on moderate-level trails.
