It is summertime at the University of Texas at Arlington. Many of our students are taking a well-deserved break before starting up their summer courses or readying themselves for summer internships and research programs.
We certainly started May off strongly, as we partnered with the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce and the Tarrant County Community College District for the inaugural State of Higher Education event. It was at this event that I shared with our partners the discovery and innovation happening at our national research university right in their backyard.
I also shared with them what we consider our secret element at UTA: the Maverick Factor—an indelible spirit of fortitude and passion within our students, faculty, and staff. Something that our nearly 5,700 new alumni who crossed the stage at Globe Life Field on May 12 will take with them as they enter the workforce.
It was also there that I announced a $12 million gift from alumnus Kelcy Warren to support our new resource and energy engineering degree program. His generous gift will support visionary research and student success and create a program that is the first of its kind in the country, housed right here at UTA. We are incredibly thankful for this support to his alma mater. I encourage you to read more in the story below.
