It’s another special Tuesday edition of our CHDCM newsletter—between the weather and holidays, it’s becoming a new tradition, lol! I hope that as the campus returns from break, that you all had a wonderful Easter/Passover celebration (if you were celebrating), and that you have returned restored and ready for the final push of the semester!
This past weekend, the CHDCM was onsite—for the first time—at BOTH the Men’s AND Women’s NCAA Final Fours! Love to see these opportunities for our students, and so proud to have been able to follow their content on Instagram—if you haven’t seen it, check out their reels. Hats off to our Center for Sports Media for making these Pirates in the Field experiences possible! Next week, the CHDCM is also hosting the WSOU 89.5 Hall of Fame event—where we’re recognizing some amazing alums of the station and gathering to celebrate our award-winning Pirate Radio! Learn more about the awardees and how to attend by clicking here.
As we also welcome a rainy April in (with the promise of May flowers to come), we’re celebrating a series of events on and off campus—not only Earth Day, but April is Deaf History Month, Autism Acceptance Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Arab American Heritage Month, and Scottish American Heritage Month. We’re also kicking off registration for next academic year! All CHDCM students should make sure that you are connecting with your advisor, in order to sign up for the courses you want and need in the Fall (and Summer)!
With that, as we continue speeding toward exams and graduation, I hope you all remain healthy and well. And, as you adjust to campus post-break, I invite you to read through this newsletter, and learn about what our amazing community is up to—because there is lots of great stuff to check out in this edition! Otherwise, please keep your good news and event notes coming, and have a wonderful two weeks!

Solomon is a sophomore journalism major from Aiea, Hawaii. It is his upbringing within the culture of Hawaii that anchors his passions for advocacy journalism, which he hopes to pursue in the future. Solomon also has an interest in all things pop-culture, staying up to date with the entertainment industry and social media trends. The opportunities for journalism in the New Jersey and New York area attracted him to the University.
Currently, Solomon frequently writes for The Setonian in the features and news sections, while also serving on the executive board as the Advertising Manager. Solomon has also filled the roles of treasurer and member coordinator for Lambda Pi Eta, SHU's chapter of the National Communication Association Honor Society, throughout the school year.
In February, Solomon moderated a speaker event with alumna, Bernie Wagenblast, hosted by SHU's chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. For him it was an opportunity to speak with a renowned queer professional about the trials and triumphs experienced in the industry .
Some endeavors outside the journalistic field include being a founding member of the Addiction Understanding Recovery Association (A.U.R.A.) as the public relations chair, and his participation in the Filipino League at Seton Hall (FLASH) SportsFest and dance teams. He is also a back-to-back intramural volleyball champion at SHU. Outside of Seton Hall, Solomon works as a Campus Manager for Fresh Prints and helps organizations at SHU create custom apparel and merchandise.
Looking forward, Solomon hopes to continue his work within the University community while also attending the Fall 2026 semester abroad in Wellington, New Zealand for an opportunity to learn more about indigenous and environmental journalism. This would be his second study abroad journey, spending time in London during the Spring 2025 semester.
