Shannon Lee, TCU President
Dear Jumbos,
Congratulations and welcome to Tufts! I am so excited for you to embark on an enriching journey of personal and intellectual growth. Over the coming months, you’ll be welcomed to the fold by many members of our community, and I am so thrilled to be one of the first. My name is Shannon Lee, and I am honored to be serving as your Student Body President for the coming year.
You are now members of the Tufts Community Union (TCU), which is composed of all Tufts undergraduates! If you’re interested in making change in your new community, an excellent way to become actively involved with campus life is to run for student government. Our student government has three branches: Senate, the Judiciary, and the Committee on Student Life.
  • TCU Senate serves as the representative body, tasked with allocating over two million dollars to student organizations on campus. Senators also advocate for reforms to improve student life, such as the creation of Late Night Dining, the Tufts Mobile app, the Textbook Exchange, and much more.
  • The TCU Judiciary serves as a judicial board for campus student organizations by recognizing new student groups and reviewing certain student group disputes.
  • The Committee on Student Life helps formulate policy decisions along with members of the faculty and administration.
Student government is certainly not the only way to get involved! Tufts University Social Collective (TUSC) plans major all-campus events such as Spring Fling, Tuftonia’s Day, and Winter Ball. Additionally, Tufts has more than 300 wonderful student organizations, including eight incredible a cappella groups, numerous pre-professional groups, club sports, and dance groups for those who can dance and dance groups for those who want to believe they can. Seize every opportunity to try a group far outside of your comfort zone. You truly never know what good can come from trying new activities until you do it!
Whether you feel entirely prepared or incredibly nervous to start your first year at Tufts, adjusting to college will take time. It’s normal to feel like you might not have found your place immediately. Your first year of college will be a time to find the people and places that make Tufts feel like home for you. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to me on Facebook or at Shannon.Lee@tufts.edu if you have any questions. Have a wonderful end of summer, and I look forward to welcoming you to the hill in person this August!
Best,

Shannon Lee
