Hello NSBH majors! My name is Karina Solman, and I am a senior NSBH major in the College of Science with minors in Compassionate Care in Medicine and Theology. I'm from Pittsburgh, PA, but on campus, I am an RA in the beautiful Flaherty Hall. Coming to Notre Dame and majoring in Neuroscience & Behavior is one of the best decisions I have ever made, not only because of the academics (and football of course), but predominantly because of the incredible community here — both in and outside of the classroom. This year, I have the privilege of serving on the NSBH Senior Leadership Committee where I get to work with an amazing group of seniors (+ Dr. Michael and Diane!) while giving back to the exciting, tight-knit NSBH community.
Next year, I will be attending dental school with the hope of becoming an orthodontist one day! For my Compassionate Care in Medicine capstone, I completed a project titled “Fixing Smiles, One Relationship at a Time: An Exploration of Polyvagal Theory as a Preventative Measure against Dental Anxiety.” I am passionate about bringing the science of compassion, which is rooted in human neuroscience, to dentistry, and I feel that my combination of majors and minors has left me well-equipped for my future endeavors.
Enjoy every moment while you are here — Notre Dame truly is a special place and I am in denial that I only have one more semester left! Do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions about anything :)

Apply by 2/29/24 3 Summer Researchers Information here
The Hahn-Pflueger Brain Cancer Scholars Program (BCSP) seeks applicants for its inaugural class of summer research interns. Established in 2020 through funding from the Molly Hahn and Rebecca Pflueger Memorial Fund at Notre Dame, the BCSP honors the lives of Molly Hahn (ND ’96, wife of Noah Hahn ND ‘94) and Rebecca Pflueger (mother of Rex Pflueger ND ’19, ND MBA ‘20) who both passed away at an early age due to the aggressive form of brain cancer known as glioblastoma. Students currently in their junior year or beyond are encouraged to apply. During the course of the internship, students will be exposed to, and participate in a variety of laboratory and clinical brain cancer research activities. Each student will complete a research project of their own during their internship. No prior cancer research experience is necessary. The goal of the BCSP program is to introduce talented young students to the brain cancer research community in the hope that some BCSP graduates may pursue careers that ultimately result in improved outcomes for patients and families affected by glioblastoma and other brain cancers.
