Over the past month, we have convened several listening sessions and advisory meetings to connect with community partners and WashU faculty and staff to discuss how WashU and the Confluence Collaborative can most effectively support community-engaged scholarship.

Community Partner Opportunity
|
|
WashU researchers are looking to collaborate with a community partner to train youth, 16-24 years old, in participatory action research. If your organization has a relevant training curriculum, please reach out to the Confluence Collaborative.
|
|
|
| The Missouri Department of Conservation is looking to explore the following research questions:
|
- How is MDC's Discovery Nature Schools K-2 curriculum being implemented, and what are the impacts of the curriculum on students and teachers?
- What are the social-psychological impacts of green space, particularly in regard to community morale?
- How do specific amounts of tree planting reduce flooding in particular areas?
- How does tree canopy cover impact asthma rates?
- How do small pollinator gardens impact biodiversity efforts?

College Bound St. Louis, a college and career readiness organization, is interested in exploring the following research areas:

The widening gap between young women and men in their preparation and ability to persist within College Bound's academic and college prep programming.
- The impact that College Bound has on the family members of students who go through its programming.
- The high-level impact that College Bound alumni have in the St. Louis region.

| Forest ReLeaf, a non-profit in St. Louis dedicated to planting and growing a resilient tree canopy across Missouri, is looking to explore the following research questions:

Environment/Climate Questions:
- What trees most effectively collect pollution and mitigate our urban heat island?
- What are the trees that St. Louis can maintain?
- What are best planting practices for people, nature, climate, and sustainable maintenance?
- Public Infrastructure Questions
- How do we create sidewalks that work with trees?
- How do we compensate people for maintaining canopy trees?

| Ready Readers expands literacy for young children in low-income communities. They are looking for research support to explore the following themes:

They are seeking to deepen their understanding of evaluation work in storytime and reading captain programs, with three main goals:
- Becoming an evidence-based practice
- Understanding the impact of their work
- Integrating school district data into their evaluation efforts
