Weeks of Welcome Leader Applications Now Open
Apply today to be a Weeks of Welcome (WOW) Leader! Weeks of Welcome leaders serve as the backbone of the incoming student process at the University of Memphis. At the heart, WoW Leaders provide a friendly face and a helpful hand to guide the new students transition to the UofM. This leadership opportunity supports the mission of the University of Memphis and Student Leadership and Involvement to provide programmatic support to Weeks of Welcome in August 2024. The primary role of a WoW Leader is to co-lead a small group of 15-25 incoming students during the Weeks of Welcome. WoW Leaders are expected to be present for all parts of WoW, engage in welcoming dialogue, and invest in the incoming students. Applications close at 11:59 PM on March 15.

This collaborative concert allows the choirs to showcase their strengths and musical styles while creating something new and exciting together. The contrasting vocal ranges of Mazi Sprano/Alto Choir and Tigerchor Tenor/Bass Choir bring a dynamic element to the performance, allowing for a wide range of musical textures and harmonies. About the choirs: Mazi, meaning together in Greek, emphasizes the collective spirit of the ensemble. By welcoming sopranos and altos from all academic disciplines within the university community, Mazi brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds and areas of study, uniting them through the power of music. Tigerchor offers students from various academic disciplines on the university campus an opportunity to explore the world of choral singing. Each group represents a unique combination of instruments, allowing for diverse musical expressions and sonic textures. Maestro Harvey Felder conducts the University Symphony Orchestra in a program of music that will highlight saxophonist Matthew Meyers, winner of the 2023 School of Music Soloist Competition. Saxophonist Matthew Meyers hails from Camdenton, Missouri and currently is pursuing a saxophone performance degree under the tutelage of Dr. Michael Shults. His accolades include soloist awards at competitions and “Gold” ratings every year at the Missouri State Solo and Ensemble competition performing solos and ensembles alike. In 2023, Matthew was named a semi-finalist in the Petrichor Records Music Competition. While a student at the University of Memphis, Meyers has been active with the Memphis Saxophone Quartet and the University Wind Ensemble, the top-performing ensemble of its kind at the School of Music.
