’11 B.A. Anthropology
Pronoun: She/Her
I am very committed to my family and my Cal community. My hobbies include exploring Bay Area trails with my husband, Adam; volunteering with the Cal Band Alumni Association; crocheting/knitting while staying up-to-date on the newest TV series; and playing with our 2-year-old cat, Mosaic.
What was your undergraduate life like at Cal? My time at Cal was bursting with energy, passion, and school spirit, and shaped who I am today. I would say my time was split between three things: Cal Band, classes/studying, and undergraduate archaeology research (a.k.a. the URAP program). Every day I had something Cal Band related: marching rehearsal, music rehearsal, basketball games, volleyball games, donor birthday parties--you name an event the Cal Band was performing at, I was there. I also received credit and experience through URAP working with Professor Kent Lightfoot through the California Archaeology Lab, the Archaeological Research Facility (ARF) and the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology (PAHMA). A couple other highlights were taking classes for my music minor (e.g. Opera, American Musicals, and Sight-Singing to name a few) and taking the Campanile DeCal, where I learned to play the carillon and got to perform on them.
What advice would you give your undergraduate self? "You don't have to do everything" or "What are you doing out? Go home and study!" Also, I would tell myself to go to office hours and talk to my Graduate Student Instructors more.
What life lessons did you learn at Cal that still impact your daily life? Two things: independence and time management. At the end of the day, I am responsible for myself and no one else. No one is going to hold my hand or remind me to do important things. I have to make things happen or they won't happen.
