The Steele Family
“Wonders & Worries offered me suggestions of words to use to explain this life chapter of cancer to my son.”
During a hike in January 2015, life changed for Karlee Steele and her son, Quade, age nine. Karlee received a call that she had Stage 3 melanoma. Facing an intense surgery and recovery, Karlee sought Wonders & Worries’ guidance on how to talk to and prepare her son.

Therapeutic Tip
Summer Reading List Triggers
Students are often assigned summer reading. Some books may bring up thoughts and feelings that are related to a loved one’s illness, anticipatory death or the loss of a person or pet. Help your child or teen process emotional responses to a story by discussing their strengths and how they handled stressful events in the past. Revisit coping mechanisms that work best for them. View our list of potentially triggering books and more ways to prepare for classroom conversations.

Happy 15th Birthday!
This month Wonders & Worries celebrates its 15th birthday! Since 2001, we’ve served 6,500+ children & parents | Grown to 18 staff members | Added 3 bilingual team members | Opened 3 offices | Joined a national research study. Congratulate Meredith Cooper on 15 years of success!
Looking for a meaningful experience for your 9th-12th grader? Consider the 2016-2017 Teen Council. Capped at 30 teens, the Teen Council is a partnership for the academic year, rooted in the idea of training the next generation of volunteers and philanthropists. Your teen will earn service hours, organize an event, develop leadership skills and learn how to advocate for a cause.
Recruiting Research Families
Spread the word! In collaboration with the University of Texas, Wonders & Worries' curriculum is in a national clinical trial. This study will provide support for us to serve even more children. Help us recruit families with a an early stage cancer diagnosis.
