Reggie Powell Shows Up and Stands Out with Stellar Work Ethic
Caring about your work and bringing enthusiasm to your job are ways you can help make PDX a welcoming place for travelers. Reggie Powell with Hudson Group sets a shining example, and received acknowledgment from his manager for his great performance:
"Although he is a newer employee of ours, Reggie stands out among his peers. You can tell he loves being around people and enjoys the airport environment. He is a pleasure to work with, and we look forward to watching him continue to grow with our company."
Reggie was honored at the PDX People Customer Service Awards, where we recognize airport employees who truly stand out as extraordinary. Missed the virtual awards ceremony? You can also nominate an employee who embodies the PDX People values and serves as a shining example of great customer service for next quarter – submit a nomination now.

What's New with PDX Next: Demo of the Demo, March Forum, Concourse C Gate Updates, Overhead Work and Bag Road Changes
Demo of the Demo: You may remember the first "demo of the demo" (or demonstration of the demolition) that happened last summer when construction crews shared a sample of the sounds created by soft demolition. Starting this week, it’s going to get significantly louder again. If you want to get an idea of how noise from the structural demolition in the former Clocktower Plaza might impact your workspace, listen up around 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 31. If you work in or around the ticket lobby, you'll likely be able to hear the demonstration. This preview is designed to help airport operations, airlines, properties and other partners experience the upcoming impacts and create awareness around what's to come.
March Forum: Want the inside scoop on construction at PDX? Jen Reynolds with the Port of Portland along with Pat Bifone and Caitlin Powell of Hoffman-Skanska will share the latest construction updates and answer your questions about PDX Next in just 30 minutes. The next update is set for Tuesday, March 29, at 10:30 a.m.
Concourse C Gate Updates: At the end of Concourse C, American Airlines shifted to Gate C15 until Gate C21 is operational. Gates C21 and C23 are behind a wall while work continues.
Overhead Work: The installation of overhead protection continues from last week, and is now being added above the south TSA checkpoint.
Bag Road: Starting Monday, March 28, the south side of the main bag road will again narrow to one lane. Flaggers will be present and this change will be in place for the next month to facilitate work on a mega column. Along with the lane change, baggage carousel 10 will close once again.

PDX Gets Loud this Spring
As mentioned above, construction crews are completing the soft demolition of the former Clocktower Plaza to make room for a more open and spacious new main terminal at PDX. It’s going to get louder in the coming weeks when these machines begin cutting through steel and concrete – what’s called “hard demolition” in construction lingo.
While the noise will always remain within safe ranges, be concentrated in the ticket lobby and TSA security checkpoints, and diminish at the end of June, we know this won’t be easy. We'll keep you in the know here, on the PDX People website and on digital signage to share what we’re doing to help mitigate the noise, weekly noise forecasts and resources for assisting passengers with sensory processing challenges. And, in case you missed it, here’s a look ahead at construction in 2022 and why it’s getting loud: we’re installing a 9-acre new roof over PDX this year.

Spring Break Travel Takes Off at PDX
Just over a million travelers are expected to pass through PDX during the peak spring travel period, spanning 25 days from March 17 through April 10 and encompassing both Oregon and Washington school spring breaks. On half of those days, more than 40,000 travelers are expected to pass through PDX daily. The current daily average number of travelers is about 35,000 during this time of year.
Visitors who haven't flown in a while will see quite a few changes at the airport. You can continue providing top-notch service by assisting puzzled passengers as they make their way through PDX. Help them choose the right checkpoint, find their way through the bypasses, locate the new rental car center and give them a heads up that some routes will take longer to walk. You can also advise travelers with mobility issues to contact their airline for wheelchair service or contact wheelchair dispatch on their behalf by calling 503.460.4300 or using a white courtesy phone.
