Dear Student,
Martin Luther King Jr. said: “The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people.”
As we honor the legacy of Dr. King, we invite you to join us in our commitment to advancing justice, truth, equity, and love and respect for our fellow citizens. We hope you will find a meaningful way to mark this moment and welcome your participation in our planned celebrations of Dr. King and Black Legacy Month.
This imperfect democracy of ours will always be a work in progress. Clearly much work needs to be done. However, we should celebrate how far we have come and that we have the freedoms, the forums, and the opportunities to work together in making this a more just and equitable society.
As Tufts students, you will provide the leadership, vision, and civic participation that will take this nation to a brighter place. Please take an opportunity now to think about how you can use your education and your community involvement to move society forward now and in the coming generation. You are a powerful force for change and we will wholeheartedly support you in your efforts.
With hope for our future,
Camille Lizarríbar, JD, PhD
Dean of Student Affairs and Chief Student Affairs Officer for AS&E
