This Team Worked Together to Save a Life
When a passenger experienced a medical emergency and collapsed, three Alaska Airlines crew members – Lorinda Cox (she/her), Amy Elizabeth Williams (she/her) and Hannah Winit (she/her) – noticed the man and stopped to help. They quickly realized the situation was urgent and jumped into action.
One crew member started compressions while the others called 9-1-1. TSA was notified and Officer Terri Marshall (she/her) got a defibrillator to assist with the man’s care. Terri, Lorinda, Amy Elizabeth and Hannah took turns administering compressions until paramedics arrived. After the paramedics took over, they assisted the man’s wife and the Port of Portland Police to make sure everyone got the help they needed.
This amazing team deserves the highest recognition for the steps they took to save this man’s life. When the ambulance arrived to transport the man, he was breathing, awake and responsive.
This team was honored at the July PDX People Customer Service Awards. Want to see who wins this quarter? Don't miss the event on Wednesday, Oct. 25, as we recognize airport employees who truly stand out as extraordinary. To watch, head to the PDX Facebook page on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at noon.

What's New with PDX Next: New Rideshare Pickup Location, Ticket Lobby Work and Concourse C Play Area Re-Opens
New Rideshare Pickup Location: Starting tomorrow – Tuesday, Oct. 24 – arriving PDX travelers will have a new pickup spot for rideshares and taxis. Lyft, Uber and taxis will now safely connect with passengers inside Level 1 of the short-term parking garage instead of on the main roadway. Once travelers deplane, they'll be guided to the new location via the rideshare apps and airport signage directing them to the "Transportation Plaza."
This move helps clear congestion on Airport Way, makes for a safer and quicker pick-up process. Another bonus? Riders can more easily connect with and find their rideshare drivers thanks to better WiFi coverage and Bluetooth beacons. Departing passengers will continue to be dropped off by rideshare and taxi drivers on the Departures level.
Ticket Lobby: From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Mondays through Saturdays until mid-November, crews will be removing overhead protection scaffolding. Work starts by Southwest Airlines and moves south, and you may hear some elevated noise during this time.
Concourse C: The play area has re-opened at the end of Concourse C.

New MAX Station Now Open at PDX
Over the weekend, a completely rebuilt PDX station reopened on the MAX Red Line. Riders now enjoy a fresh new look, with more space and new digital displays with real time schedules. There's also more overhead protection to stay warm and dry in the rain and snow, as nearly the entire station is covered. That's not the only improvement ahead: In February 2024, riders can look forward to a more reliable MAX experience when the second light rail track is up and running in and out of PDX. Then, in Spring 2024, a new pedestrian-bike path will make it easier and safer to walk and cycle to and from PDX.

Sunflower Lanyards:
Making the Invisible Visible
As we acknowledge Disability Employment Awareness Month this October, take a moment to refresh your knowledge of the sunflower lanyard program at PDX. The green sunflower lanyard has one simple purpose: It indicates that the person wearing it – or someone with them – has a hidden disability and that they may need additional support. There's also a white "proud to support" lanyard available. You may have seen a fellow PDX employee wearing one – send us an email if you'd like your own. Take some time to learn more about the program, hidden disabilities and how you can help make our airport more inclusive and welcoming to all travelers.
