Cuyler Dunn works as a reporter for the Lawrence Times and Eudora Times, as well as a reporter and columnist for the University Daily Kansan.
Alexis Jungman is a freshman and plans to join the University Daily Kansan as a sophomore. Jungman is considering law school. However, as the daughter of journalists, Jungman says she knows journalism will be part of her future.
Shelby Norton serves as the arts and culture reporter for the University Daily Kansan and is on the music staff at KJHK.
Aminah Syed works as a journalism lab tech at the JMC School and has also worked as a reporter for the University Daily Kansan. She is the co-founder and vice president of the Diverse Students Association. Syed says she aspired to become a journalist so that no individual feels that their truth is not seen.

Scott Richards visits JMC 611: Richards, Founder of Ninth and Chapel, a marketing and consulting agency, recently paid a visit to JMC 611 Sales Strategies. Richards is a KU grad and has visited the class several times over the last few years traveling from his home in Denver. He shared his experiences in the agency business with the class, and always brings his fun and enthusiastic approach to building brands. He challenged the class with an initiative to sell Small School Apparel to smaller colleges and universities. The class responded with some creative ideas.

Assistant Professor Chris Etheridge and doctoral student Rim Chaif presented "That 'we won' feeling: Inclusion of LGBTQ voice in news reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court same-sex marriage decision" at the AEJMC Southeast Colloquium in Lexington, Ky., on March 8. In the study, they argue that LGBTQ individuals were more frequently included as sources in reaction stories about the Obergefell v. Hodges decision in 2015 than in previous news about LGBTQ issues.
Doctoral student Nazra Izhar, Assistant Professor Chris Etheridge, and graduate student Moses Okocha presented "Mediated civic engagement: Online activity and community participation on the Indian subcontinent" at the AEJMC Southeast Colloquium in Lexington, Ky., on March 8. In the study, they provide additional evidence that civic engagement behaviors of young adult populations in Indian can have ties to digital and social media activity.

JMC Alum behind hit true crime podcast |
|
|
Mandy Matney, a 2012 JMC graduate, has illuminated a complex saga of crime and corruption for millions of listeners on her podcast "Murdaugh Murders Podcast."
Matney worked for the Island Packet, a newspaper in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina in February of 2019 when a boat crash caused the death of one passenger. She and her colleagues reported on the fatal crash and learned that Paul Murdaugh, the 19-year-old son of well-connected attorney Alex Murdaugh, had been at the helm of the boat. Three generations of Murdaugh men had consecutively held the top prosecutor role from 1920 to 2006.
|
| |
|
Matney researched the Murdaughs and steadily unearthed a tangle of suspicious deaths and dubious financial dealings linked to the family. When Paul Murdaugh and his mother, Maggie, were murdered on June 7, 2021, Matney decided it was time to take her storytelling to a new medium and launched her podcast from her kitchen table.
Read about Matney's journey from unearthing the jaw dropping story at a local newspaper to producing the No. 1 podcast on Apple Podcasts in Sept. 2021
