Friday is our application deadline for Course Design Institute (CDI), the specialized CDI+ cohorts, and two spring book groups on AI and academic integrity and on teaching online. CDI is an intensive one-week program that helps you design, redesign, or tweak your course with the guidance of expert GW facilitators. $500 stipends are available for most participants upon successful completion of all program elements. CDI is open to all GW faculty, including adjuncts, part-time faculty, and faculty who teach hybrid and online courses.

Dates: May 18–22, 2026

Location: Fully online, with an optional in-person Wednesday session (lunch included) at the Foggy Bottom campus

In addition to our full CDI, we offer CDI+, “add-on” cohorts designed to help CDI participants and alumni build on the foundation of CDI to explore specific transformative practices in more depth. CDI+ participants are eligible for a stipend of $250 upon completion of the program expectations. This spring, we have two cohorts. Both will meet for a full-day, in-person working session, lunch included!

The CTE is offering two book groups this semester. Discuss timely topics with other GW educators and receive a hard copy of the book if you commit to attending all three meetings!

We are excited to announce that Teaching Day will return on October 2, 2026! This fall, we will once again dedicate a full day to celebrating teaching through dynamic sessions from GW educators, a lunch and keynote, and other opportunities to connect with colleagues. 

New! This year, we invite all GW educators to contribute to the program as we re-envision the event to be by the community, for the community. We welcome proposals on any topic that supports our mission of preparing educators to foster transformative learning at GW. There are three session types to choose from: interactive session, panel discussion, and quick talk. 

Disability Support Services (DSS) provides support to faculty and students to foster inclusive and equitable learning environments. They offer events, office hours, and web resources to learn more about their support and the accommodations process. Plus, sign up for their newsletter!

Faculty and staff members will learn basic information about the definition of disability, disability identity, and how students with disabilities may be impacted in the world of higher education. This workshop will share resources that students with disabilities can access during their time on campus, including, but not limited to, Disability Support Services. Additionally, attendees will learn about managing obstacles that students with disabilities may face in the academic space.

DSS hosts instructor drop-in hours weekly from 2:00–4:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday to help instructors navigate the DSS portal and manage accommodation requests. Please use the following info to access the meeting:

Apply for the Adapting Course Materials for Equity Faculty Grant to support student success at GW by improving equitable access to course materials. This program awards grants ranging from $500 to at least $1,000 to GW faculty who want to adopt and adapt open or zero-cost course materials for undergraduate courses taught between Fall 2026 and Fall 2027. The impact of this program has been huge: 1,753 students have benefited from no-cost materials, saving more than $200,472 in textbook costs across the first four years of the ACME grant. Grantees receive guidance from LAI staff throughout the process, including finding and evaluating open and zero-cost materials, understanding open licensing, and meeting digital accessibility requirements.
