U of U Health Research Funding
reaches new high

Research funding at University of Utah Health has grown continuously for nine years running, reaching $428 million in FY21. 1,740 awards are funding 2,054 proposals and 67% of the U’s total research funding comes from U of U Health.

“The past 18 months have been difficult for all of us, but our researchers continue to excel,” says Willard Dere, MD, FACP, associate vice president for research at U of U Health. “Their innovations will help us overcome the many effects of the pandemic and will continue to make a difference in a wide variety of areas that impact health and our communities.”

VACCINE EFFECTIVENESS DIPS BUT STILL STRONG

Research published in the CDC Morbidity Mortality Weekly Report shows that COVID-19 vaccines remain effective, but their potency has diminished in recent months from 91% to 80%. The RECOVER study is being carried out at eight sites nationwide, including at Salt Lake City, led by U of U Health investigators.
