FAQ of the Month
What's the best way to connect with someone on LinkedIn?
The summer is a great time to curate existing connections and look for ways to expand your network. And yes, it's easy to send a bunch of LinkedIn connection requests at once. But unless you know the people well or you just asked "May I send you a LinkedIn request?" (AND you send it within a day or so) please tailor your message.
Quick tips for customization:
  • Remind the person how you know him/her (1-2 sentences) or mention something you have in common (fellow Jumbo, perhaps??)
  • If you're reaching out to start a conversation, tell your recipient what would be helpful in specific, easy-to-say-yes terms, e.g., “Would it be possible to schedule a 20-minute phone call in the next few weeks? I’d love to pick your brain about XYZ …”
  • Express gratitude -- early and often!
