Sooganthy Nadarajah (MBA '08), Leader, Higher Education & Healthcare, Amazon Web Services shared why attending Schulich was a pivotal moment in her career and how she landed at Amazon. As a software engineer, Soo quickly realized her real passion was solving business problems with her customers and the MBA program at Schulich was the right place to develop the necessary skills to succeed, both in the classroom and in case competitions. Networking at Schulich brought Soo to an internship and eventually a full-time role at Blackberry after connecting with the VP of Global Sales for a Schulich club event. Now at Amazon, Soo shared practical advice for students looking to get hired by Amazon, explaining how culture is just as important as skill, how to get noticed, and how to be more comfortable during group interviews. Thank you to Ashwin Joshi, Associate Professor of Marketing; Director, MBA Program for moderating this incredibly insightful conversation.

Denise Pickett (MBA ’90), President, Global Services Group, American Express Company spoke about the risks she has taken in life and what qualities make her a great leader. Applying to the MBA after four years in science, Denise decided to pursue her MBA at Schulich, a time she looks back fondly on. Post degree, Denise found herself in a sales role, an experience she says everyone should try but that she quickly realized was not her passion. With an eye on marketing, Denise took a significant pay cut to get an entry-level job at American Express, a move she says was the best decision in her career. Denise shared with students why the Emotional Quotient (EQ), being authentic and fostering relationships have helped her to be a successful and strong leader and how business failures do not equal leadership failures. Thank you to Dean Zwick for moderating an exciting and valuable conversation.

Program Provides a Comfortable Space to Discuss Issues Facing Women Leaders
Organizations with women leaders in senior management are more profitable and successful. Yet few organizations achieve the benefits associated with gender equity.
Drawing from research and best practices, as well as stories from successful women, Practical Strategies for Successful Women Leaders helps participants identify the obstacles in their own workplace and increase their knowledge, skills and understanding of what it takes to be successful as a women leader. The result will benefit not only women but all leaders and organizational stakeholders.
