Dear Parents and Families, Here in New England, the tree leaves are beginning to transform into beautiful shades of yellow, orange, and red, reminding us that we are entering deeper into autumn, and illustrating in our natural world the invisible processes we know are afoot inside all of us and our students—processes of transformation from one season and state to another as the days pass. For most students, college is a time of tremendous personal transformation—as students discern their strengths and growing edges in their studies and as whole persons, interacting with their environment and exploring their academic and vocational interests, their friendships and other relationships, their co-curricular and community involvements, and even the larger questions of their identities, their values, and the beliefs and practices that guide their lives.

Dean's List and Honors
Undergraduate students at Tufts earning a BA or BS in the School of Arts and Science or School of Engineering may earn various academic honors. The criteria for earning honors status have been adjusted to account for the Change to the Credit Hour System in June 2018. Dean's List- Liberal Arts students in the BA or BS degree programs who have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 Semester-hour units (SHUs), received letter grades in a minimum of 12 SHUs with no work incomplete, and earned a minimum GPA average of 3.4 will be placed on the Dean’s List.
- Students in the BA/BFA combined degree program with SMFA at Tufts enrolled in a minimum of 12 SHUs or more will be awarded Dean’s List honors if they have a GPA of 3.4 or more in a given semester. (There is no Dean’s List for the BFA Program.)
- Engineering students who have been enrolled in a minimum of 13 SHUs, received letter grades in a minimum of 9 SHUs, completed every course in which they were enrolled with no incomplete work, and earned a minimum of GPA average of 3.2 will be placed on the Dean’s list.
Your student is able to share their honors status with their local newspaper! They can make this request through SIS by going to the Student Living tab, clicking on Webcenter, and using the Hometown News Release.

Career Corner: Conversations with the Tufts Career CenterHelp Your Student Understand Hiring Timelines
Students continually compare themselves to peer groups -- after all, it’s human nature! With that in mind, one can easily see how they may notice friends who have already secured jobs/internships and say, “Am I behind?” One important piece of answering this question involves understanding hiring timelines, as students may not be aware that different industries operate by different schedules. Similarly, some employers -- typically larger organizations -- recruit heavily on college campuses while others advertise their openings primarily online. While there are always exceptions, here’s a general sense of timelines by industry. (And of course, no matter the timeline, networking is always an essential part of the process!) - Fall (can be earlier): Finance, Consulting, Engineering, Tech
- Fall/Winter: International, Think Tanks, Business Services, Consumer Products, Law, Government, Research, Healthcare
- Spring: Education, Human Services, Arts, Communications

Free Flu Shots for Students
Did you know that flu shots are free for all AS&E students who paid a Health Fee? Tufts Health Service is offering it's final flu clinic this week -- while supplies last! - Thursday, October 11, 11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Student should come to the Health Service Conference Room on the Lower Level of 124 Professors Row. They should wear a short-sleeved shirt and have their student I.D. ready. The flu is not a mild illness or a cold. It comes with fever, chills, and body aches, and could mean missing class for several days. Getting a flu shot just makes good sense! Encourage your student to get their shot free shot this week!
