STARS

Now that it's 2015, lets look at what STARS did in 2014!

Student Assistance Program (SAP): biggest change for 2014 was partnering with MNPS on the Project Prevent grant to expand services in MNPS. Project Prevent is a Department of Education grant awarded to MNPS. MNPS is partnering with STARS to provide Student Assistance Program services and training district personnel in Restorative Practices.

The KOB staff visited the Islamic Center and Scarritt Bennett for trainings about what life is like and the prejudices Muslim American kids face growing up in the US. The training will help better equip the staff for the 5th grade program: Respecting and Accepting Diversity.

Services for Deaf & Hard of Hearing Students (DHH) completed their second annual College and Job Readiness Retreat. A total of 27 students (10 more than last year) from all over the state of Tennessee attended! College Recruiters were also present for the retreat and Gallaudet Unviersity (the largest University for students who are deaf) brought two representatives. MTSU and VOL state also attended. The retreat included activities such as interest testing, motivational speakers, the college application process, career panel, job preparation, budgeting and life skills along with much more!

Youth Overcoming Drug Abuse (YODA) is so excited to announce the program was awarded an $80,000 grant from the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth (TCCY). We want to thank the TCCY for their support. The funds will help continue the invaluable services STARS YODA provides.

MOVE2STAND (M2S) took this year by storm! In comparison to last year, M2S saw more students, had more presentations, and visited more schools!

YOUTH ENGAGEMENT SUMMIT (S3): much like M2S, S3 was busy helping youth across the state change their school climate. Let's take a look at how many lives were impacted by S3!
