Public Relations through TVMA
One of TVMA's goals is to focus on public relations for veterinarians and the veterinary profession with the objective of becoming the "go-to" for veterinary medical and animal welfare information for all media outlets.  With the expertise and guidance of our contracted public relations firm, we are providing articles and op-eds to the media outlets across the state.  This month, an article outlining the 6 reasons your dog should see a vet each year (link the attached article) was distributed.  We are currently working on information for a public education section on our website.  Articles will be posted to the blog on the website as well.
Here are ways you can be involved:
Submit uplifting stories involving the human-animal bond and/or a successful outcome as a result of veterinary care/preventative care
Notify us if you are a contributor to a journal, magazine, or online media outlet and are willing to provide articles
Notify us if you know a reporter personally and can help with having articles published
Check regularly for information on the public education section and blog on our website that may be passed along to your clients
We are excited about obtaining more visibility for our members and the veterinary profession.  We invite you to join us in this important effort.
Legislative Session Report
TVMA's Lobbyists Meagan Frazier and Lou Alsobrooks have again represented veterinarians and the veterinary profession in a superior manner.  Among the legislation passed this year were changes in the controlled substance database reporting, allowing a study of the professional privilege tax and its application (or non-application) to various occupations, and door requirements for retail establishments with veterinary clinics.   Click here to read more on these and other laws.
Petco Advertising Adjusted
Information included in a new Petco commercial and on their website regarding their grooming services left the impression that a grooming session may be a substitute for preventive care.  State veterinary medical associations reached out to the AVMA which led to a conversation with Petco regarding our concerns.  Read more...
