Through Save It Forward, participants are trained in energy management techniques to reduce their energy consumption, lower carbon emissions and increase profits. Who You Gonna Call? Demand Response!
|
When the heat is on and the generation assets are offline due to maintenance... who ya gonna call? Demand Response! When you're out of economic hours and demand is still high... who ya gonna call? The Interruptible Power Special Offer!
Okay, they may not be Ghostbusters, but the Demand Response team did perform some supernatural feats during our late summer heatwave this year after TVA's Operations teams faced higher-than-expected prices for purchased power. The Demand Response team quickly designed, promoted and implemented a new program, dubbed the Interruptible Power Special Offer (IPSO), which helped TVA acquire some 700 MW of additional Demand Response capacity to meet system needs.
This was definitely a win-win, as TVA was able to keep money with Valley businesses and employers instead of buying more expensive purchased power. Valley businesses came through. Even when called upon during consecutive days, businesses participating in the special pay-for-performance program performed over 100% in every event. The results speak for themselves, with up to 737 MW and over 24,300 MWh shed across 11 events and nearly 600 hours this summer.
It was a team effort coordinated across businesses, local power companies and many internal TVA business partners, including Operations, Enterprise Planning, Office of General Counsel, Contracts, Pricing and Regional Relations. Kudos to the tremendous effort, which is helping TVA keep rates low and reliability high.
