Marlys Staudt, associate professor in the College of Social Work, designed a study to assess secondary trauma, burnout, and compassion satisfaction among professionals associated with the Children’s Advocacy Center.
The College of Nursing’s Student Nurses Association provides free fingerprint charms to families who have lost a child through the Precious Prints Project. Recently, four additional Covenant Health hospitals have been added to the program. The project has provided 750 keepsake prints to families since the program’s inception.
The Howard Baker Center for Public Policy is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The Baker Center provides public lectures and programs around Energy & Environment, Global Security, and Leadership & Governance. As part of the celebration festivities it hosted Ambassador Ira Shapiro, past U.S. trade negotiator with Japan and Canada, for a book signing.
The Association of Public and Land Grant Universities (APLU) held its winter meeting November 11-13 in New Orleans. This year’s theme was Resilience. The APLU is the premier gathering of senior administrators from public research and land-grant institutions. The APLU leadership also announced the Commission on Economic and Community Engagement

National Service-Learning Conference Seeks Proposals The National Service-Learning Conference is in its 30th year. The annual conference will be held April 15-16 in Philadelphia, PA. It will highlight and promote service-learning that builds academic and citizenship skills while making meaningful contributions to communities. University Assisted Community School teacher Ronda Mostella was recognized for her work at Pond Gap Elementary. The fourth and fifth graders in Mostella's after school class use music to learn math and other skills. For nine years she has brought dynamic passion and energy to Pond Gap. University Assisted Community Schools is a collaborative effort with UT.
The Charles Bronfman Prize
The Charles Bronfman Prize celebrates the vision and efforts of an individual or team under fifty whose humanitarian work has significantly impacted the world. A panel of judges selects prize recipient(s) and awards $100,000.
