Senior Send Offs!

It's that happy/sad time of year when we say good bye to our graduating seniors.  We are so proud of what you've accomplished and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
Molly King
What are your plans after graduation?
Working during the summer, hanging out with friends and dogs before everyone departs, attending Goucher in the fall, continuing to study music through their theater and music department (though not as a major, as far as I know)

What will you miss about SOR?
All the people. I've made a lot of great friends, and all the teachers are great. Jessica is my teacher and was my very first friend here. I'll miss having somewhere that pushes me to try new things. I dont know that I would have stuck with guitar if it wasn't for the Grateful dead show, and I dont know if I would have stuck with keys if it wasn't for the "all killer no filler show. " I will miss the mics with the weird cables. I'll miss that one inexplicably short couch in Graceland. I'll miss looking like an idiot when I try to plug into the wrong amp. I'll miss the corner seat in the L shaped couch (fight me Kelsie). I'm gonna miss getting sunburnt on stage in downtown Silver Spring but only on half of my leg.

Advice to the upcoming students.
The microphone is your friend. Trust me, you will get better and the only way to do that is to muscle through the less better parts. You gotta mess up early and mess up often so its not as big of a deal. Nobody is gonna remember you as that one guy to played one(1) wrong note that one time. Dont be afraid to move around on stage. People aren't gonna be looking just at you the whole time. You've got so many other kids up there with you as your support. BREADSTICKING IS THE BANE OF YOUR EXISTENCE.
Lyla DiPaul
What are your plans after graduation?
I'll be attending Loyola-NOLA in the fall and will minor in music; not sure about major yet.

What are you gonna miss?
All the people and my teachers.

Advice for students?
Step out of your comfort zone, try something new! I didn't even know how to sing loudly when I got here, now I can play keys! (Kinda lol).

Aran Mazariegos

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan on working after I graduates. I have checked out a few places and am waiting to get some feedback. Aran is headed to UC Santa Barabara in the fall.
Advice for students?

Aran's advice to upcoming students is that they take the time to learn their parts to the tunes in their entirety and that way they will have more fun during the performances.

Make Music Day June 21st - You're Invited!

Come Celebrate MAKE MUSIC DAY with School of Rock Silver Spring this month, Thursday, June 21st.  What is Make Music Day you may ask?  Make Music Day is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 800 cities in 120 countries.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers in a free and open celebration of music.

Silver Spring SOR will join the celebration by participating in the largest live performance ever of David Bowie's Rebel, Rebel, which will also be played simultaneously by other School of Rock students around the globe.  It will be a Facebook Live event as well.  In the spirit of the day, we will set up on the sidewalk in front of the school and jam a bit before the live event at 8PM.  All our students who would like to be a part of this will be asked to learn a part on Rebel, Rebel prior to the event so they can participate.  How fun is that?

Stay tuned for event details coming out soon!  In the meantime mark your calendar now for Make Music Day 2018 on  June 21st 6 to 9PM.
