Nothing Short of Heroic

This week marks the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week. In the Fall issue of Berkshire Magazine, read our latest "Giving Back" on our volunteer firefighters. Not every town in Berkshire County has a school, or even a post office, but all 32 towns have a fire department—and all 32 fire departments do more than put out fires. According to Lanesborough Fire Chief Jeff DeChaine, the term “fire department” is old school. “We are emergency response departments,” he says. “We get it all: fires, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, cats in trees, puppies in couches, gas fumes, burst pipes. When that whistle blows, someone is having a bad day.” Read more of "Nothing Short of Heroic," written by Laura Mars and photographed by Jimmy ienner, Jr. More info
