Hey everyone! I’m Dominick Jesus Blanco, a senior majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Latino Studies. On campus I spent the past three years at Alumni Hall (The Center of the Universe), but now I live in Irish Flats. I was born and raised in The Bronx, New York City, with roots in the Dominican Republic.
At Notre Dame, I have tried my best to be involved in a variety of clubs and activities. Currently I am the President of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), and just recently came back from the National SHPE Convention in Salt Lake City, UT. I am also heavily involved and a board member in the First Gen Careers Initiative (FGC), and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). Within Galvin, I am one of the leaders of the Mentorship Committee. Last spring, I had the opportunity to study “abroad” in Silicon Valley, California, immersing myself in the world of startups. This experience not only deepened my understanding of the Bay Area’s rich history but also helped me discern that I aspire to work at the intersection of technology and education to address the rising levels of inequality. I am still trying to figure out where I am going to work after graduation, but I am a firm believer in the saying “things will always work themselves out”.
Looking back on my time at Notre Dame and the challenges I faced, whether it was struggling to adapt during my freshman year due to COVID, grappling with complex concepts in classes, or not knowing how to explore my career aspirations, throughout it all, Galvin has consistently been a pillar of support, offering assistance in various ways to lift me up. The tight-knit community of friends I found in Galvin during my freshman year played a crucial role in my college experience. Without them, I believe I would have faced greater difficulty making friends and adjusting from the Bronx to South Bend. Moreover, the smaller class sizes and dedicated professors in Galvin provided an environment where I felt comfortable to seek guidance. This enabled me to ask questions, attend office hours, and seek help from my teachers. Without the nurturing academic environment that Galvin offered, I might not have developed the confidence to engage actively in my education.
Galvin has truly been my home on campus and I am a firm believer in paying it forward by helping out whenever and wherever I can. So, if i can ever be of any assistance please let me know!

Students selected for the program take a one-credit course in the spring semester of their first year which focuses on understanding the challenges marginalized communities face and provides a framework for encountering people in those communities. The course, in addition to orientation sessions, develops an awareness of what justice looks like, examines how systemic injustice is created and perpetuated, and asks students to consider their responsibility to promote justice and the common good.

The Center for Children and Families at Florida International University announces Summer Treatment Program Counselor, Research Assistant, and Teacher/Classroom Aide positions for 2024. Positions are available at our sites in Miami and in Buffalo, NY. More than 100 positions are available. Positions are available for undergraduate students, postbaccalaureate students, and graduate students.
The Summer Treatment Program (STP) provides services to children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Conduct Disorder, Oppositional-Defiant Disorder, learning problems, and related behavior problems. By participating in the STP, students will:
- Learn evidence-based techniques for working with children who have disruptive behavior disorders
- Gain valuable clinical and research experience to prepare for career and graduate school
- Help children to improve their social skills, sports skills, and academic skills
- Network with faculty members at the Center for Children and Families, as well as students from across the country.
Experience in the STP may be helpful to prepare students for further study or employment in the fields of education, mental health, physical education, pediatrics, psychiatry, recreational therapy, behavior analysis, social work, counseling, and related areas. Staff members have uniformly reported the experience to be the most demanding but also the most rewarding clinical experience of their careers.

Master of Science in Epidemiology |
Northwestern University’s Program in Public Health is announcing a new Master of Science in Epidemiology. This degree will provide rigorous, fast-paced training to prepare students for careers in public health and clinical epidemiological research.

Projects in the labs are highly interdisciplinary and combine methods from experimental and clinical psychology, neuroscience, and behavioral economics with functional neuroimaging and electrochemistry to investigate decision-making in healthy and clinical populations.
