Guyla Hines Carries Out Fantastic Customer Service
An already flustered traveler realized they had left their luggage behind. Fortunately, Guyla Hines (she/her) with ABM came through:
"Guyla is absolutely amazing! After I went through the wrong security checkpoint and exited the concourse, I realized that I left my carry-on bag behind. I was nearly in tears knowing that if I had to go through security two more times I would likely miss my flight.
Never fear, Guyla to the rescue! She graciously went through security and located my missing suitcase. I was then able to go through the correct security checkpoint and board my flight. I am so incredibly grateful for her help."
Our guest speaker at this event will be Dan Pippenger, Chief Operating Officer with the Port of Portland, who will provide an update on airport operations and what we might expect to see in the coming year. We'll also share a short video made in partnership with Timberline Lodge about the benefits of outdoor winter activities. Head to the PDX Facebook page to watch live on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at noon.

Mask Upgrades and COVID-19 Resources
Given how contagious the omicron variant of the coronavirus is, experts say it's time to upgrade your mask. If possible, higher filtration masks are recommended (KN95 and KF95) or double masking with a disposable surgical mask next to your face and a snug-fitting cloth mask over the top.
As we have done throughout the pandemic, we will continue to follow recommendations from our public health partners, including the Oregon Health Authority, and will keep you posted as guidance continues to evolve. Watch for updates in this newsletter and encourage co-workers to subscribe now if they haven't already.

Keeping You Safe on the Shuttle
Your health and safety continues to be our top priority. Based on Centers for Disease Control and Oregon Health Authority guidance, face coverings and three feet of physical distancing are required on PDX shuttles. Additionally, shuttle drivers wipe down all high-touch surfaces upon arrival at the terminal and use a disinfectant fogger at least once a day.
Shuttles arrive every six to eight minutes, and you can download the PDX Parking Shuttle app (available on the Apple App Store and Google Play) to see routes and arrival times. If the bus that shows up appears full, check and see if there’s another one arriving shortly to avoid crowding.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day: A Day On, Not a Day Off
Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The holiday was established to recognize the life and contributions of Dr. King, as well as inspire people to volunteer to improve their communities.
The first official Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was celebrated on Jan. 20, 1986. In 1994, Congress designated the holiday as a national day of service and marked the third Monday in January as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. This is the only federal holiday commemorating an African-American.
Interested in learning more? Watch this short video to find out how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. got a holiday. You can also check out community events happening throughout the week, including a free screening of Keep Alive the Dream at the Hollywood Theatre today at 3 p.m. and Portland State University's MLK Living The Legacy Series with keynote speaker Rev. Dr. LeRoy Haynes, Jr. on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m.
