Hi everyone! My name is Stephanie Estrada, and I'm currently navigating the beautiful city of Puebla as a junior studying abroad this semester. Originally from Clarksburg, CA, I've found a temporary home in Walsh Hall while majoring in biology with a minor in compassionate care in medicine on the premed track.
Living in Walsh Hall has been a heartwarming experience, surrounded by a community that feels like a home away from home. It's incredible how this place has become a hub for connecting with fellow scholars from diverse corners of the world. The cultural exchange here has been nothing short of eye-opening, constantly challenging and broadening my perspectives on life. One of the many memorable experiences of my semester abroad has been the chance to engage in research at the Mesa Jimenez Lab. Working alongside my peers here and the grad students of UPAEP, I have been delving into the analysis of antioxidant activity in black maize originating from Tlaxcala. This experience has not only expanded my knowledge in the field of biology but has also honed my research skills, allowing me to gain a deeper appreciation for the collaborative nature of scientific exploration.
This past summer, I also had the opportunity of working at Camp Sweeney. The experience was nothing short of magical as I contributed to creating a supportive and joyful environment for campers. The friendships forged and lessons learned during those months have left an indelible mark on my heart. I eagerly anticipate returning next year as leadership to continue being a part of something truly meaningful.
Beyond the academic realm, I've had the immense pleasure of being a part of the Galvin Leadership Committee for the past two years. Our efforts in planning the annual formal have been filled with laughter, friendship, and the joy of creating memorable experiences for our fellow Galvin program members. It's more than just an event; it's a celebration of the unique bonds that make the Galvin community so special. Speaking of the Galvin program, I cannot emphasize enough how enriching and supportive this community has been for me. The Galvin Leadership Committee, along with its dedicated mentors and fellow students, embodies a culture of collaboration and empowerment. The Galvin community goes beyond expectations, offering resources, mentorship, and a sense of belonging that is truly unparalleled. I’m truly excited to return to campus next semester, and can not wait to continue making memories on such an amazing campus.
