Tufts Student Life
Margaret Rose Vendryes
March 31, 2022
Dear members of the Tufts community,
I write with the sad news that Margaret Rose Vendryes, the incoming dean of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts, passed away unexpectedly. Our community was anticipating her arrival with great excitement, and I was personally looking forward to working closely with her in the years to come. I spoke with her just last week, and she was full of ideas and enthusiasm about SMFA. While most of us only met her briefly, she made quite an impression and we are deeply saddened by this news.
Margaret had a long and distinguished career as an art historian, curator, educator, and visual artist. More information about her career and legacy is included in our Tufts Now story shared earlier this year in anticipation of her arrival this coming academic year.
We send sincere condolences from Tufts to her family and friends.
I acknowledge this has been a difficult time for many members of our community. I encourage anyone in need to reach out for support from any of the university or school resources below.
Sincerely,
James M. Glaser
Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences
