Graduate Student Spotlight: Maryrose Weatherton
Ecology seeks to understand the vital connections between living organisms and their environment, which form a complex network defined by their use of available resources. Maryrose Weatherton is applying a similar ecological lens to study the environment of students in higher education. By using what is known about ecological systems, she hopes to develop a better way to measure and characterize achievement in minoritized grad students.

UT continues to be number two in cumulative Department of Energy Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) awards. This year, two students received the award, bringing the university’s total SCGSR award recipients to 21 since the program began in 2014.

Students of the UT Maker’s Club and staff members of the Innovation and Collaboration Studio (ICS) worked together to redesign and deliver a custom trophy for the Visit Knoxville Open golf tournament, which took place earlier this month at courses around Knoxville.

UT has been named a 2021–22 Military Spouse Friendly School. The university is one of 194 schools selected for the recognition and one of the 747 schools designated a Military Friendly School, which the university announced last month.

The University of Tennessee-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute (UT-ORII) is seeking proposals for its second round of Seed grants. All UT faculty and Oak Ridge National Laboratory researchers are eligible to apply. The deadline for this round of grants is June 28. Click here to apply.
