Gateway85 executive director Emory Morsberger recently wrote a heartfelt op-ed honoring the extraordinary life and legacy of President Jimmy Carter. From his humble beginnings in Plains, Georgia, to his impactful roles as Governor and the 39th President of the United States, Carter’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, compassion and the belief in the goodness of humanity. His dedication to racial integration, education reform, environmental protection and global human rights defined a career rooted in empathy and progress.
Locally, President Carter’s legacy is beautifully reflected in Jimmy Carter Boulevard, a vital part of the Gateway85 CID. This bustling corridor of diverse businesses and communities embodies the values he championed—hard work, innovation and inclusivity. The op-ed also shares a deeply personal memory of President Carter, highlighting his remarkable kindness and humanity, reminding us of the lasting impact of even the simplest gestures.

As technology advances, scammers are becoming more sophisticated with phishing and identity theft schemes. Protect yourself by following these tips to avoid falling victim:
Be cautious of impersonators: Scammers often pretend to be from trusted organizations like the government, your bank, or a utility company. Avoid clicking links or calling numbers provided in suspicious emails or texts. Instead, visit the organization’s official website to verify the inquiry and find legitimate contact information.
Beware of urgent claims: If you’re told there’s a problem (e.g., you owe money) or a prize (e.g., you’ve won something), approach with skepticism. These are common tactics used by scammers.
Don’t give in to pressure: Scammers often try to scare you into immediate action, such as threatening arrest or larger fines. They may demand payment through apps, gift cards, or cryptocurrency—methods that are difficult to trace or reverse.
When in doubt, verify the request independently through the organization’s official website or by researching similar scams online. Never provide personal or financial information in response to unsolicited requests and always resist high-pressure tactics.
