Gateway85 CID Votes to Reduce Millage Rate
By my recommendation, the Gateway85 CID voted last month to reduce the CID millage rate from 5-mills to 4-mills. Due to the efforts of Gateway85 CID in promoting prosperity and commerce in the area, local property values have increased to allow sustained value from a lower tax rate. The board felt that they could maintain Gateway85 CID's investment in projects, studies and more while achieving the same level of success for the CID's programs and initiatives.

Celebrating President Jimmy Carter's Past, Present and Future
Gateway85 CID’s kickoff event for the Jimmy Carter Boulevard enhancement program was an incredible success! On May 23, over 150 people gathered at Global Mall to honor President Jimmy Carter and the namesake of our primary artery, Jimmy Carter Boulevard, with coffee and pastries from local business Sarah Donuts.

Former U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young, Jason Carter, Chair of The Carter Center, Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity, Gwinnett County Commission Chair Nicole Love Hendrickson, Norcross Mayor Craig Newton, local business leaders and other prominent figures involved in the creation of Jimmy Carter Boulevard shared their personal stories about President Jimmy Carter, the history of the boulevard and district, the rise of technology and manufacturing and the international flavors of our booming restaurant and retail scene. You can hear those personal stories here and watch a recording of the full event here.
We are grateful and honored to be part of a CID with such vibrant and unique businesses and communities. We will be continuing our enhancement program with quarterly events focused on the industry sectors within the CID, including office, logistics, manufacturing, retail and restaurants. Stay tuned for details!

EV Charging Grant Application Update
The CID is pursuing multiple opportunities to install EV charging for properties across the Gateway85 district. Next Wednesday at 1 p.m. after the CID board meeting, we will hear a presentation from Georgia Power on the Make Ready Infrastructure Program which provides grants through Georgia Power to support EV charging installation. Meanwhile, the CID is continuing to work with the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) on a regional strategy to support economic development and small businesses through the deployment of chargers around the region.
For more information, please contact Carolyn Bourdeaux at carolyn@gateway85.com if you are interested in attending.

A Retrospective History of Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Gwinnett County
Elliott Brack, owner of Gwinnett Forum and author of Gwinnett: A Little Above Atlanta, documented a brief history of Jimmy Carter Boulevard’s origin and how the continued development of the artery is deeply intertwined with the growth and innovation of the area’s businesses. What was originally a dirt road rapidly transformed into a four-lane highway following the arrival of national telecommunications firm Western Electric in 1969 and ultimately launched the area’s history as a hub for technology and engineering.
Read Brack’s full article on the history of Jimmy Carter Boulevard and the Gateway85 area here.
Brack delivered an address about the area’s history and signed copies of his book. Gwinnett: A Little Above Atlanta at the Jimmy Carter Boulevard celebration event on May 23. If you’re interested in learning about the County’s history, Brack’s book is available as an e-book from Amazon or Barnes and Noble. The third edition is available for purchase at Liberty Books in Lawrenceville and the hardback is also available at Antiques in Old Town in Lilburn.
