From the Office of the Dean |
Hello everyone, and happy Monday!
Hopefully, this edition of the Dean’s newsletter finds each and every member of our CHDCM community doing well, and that the second half of the semester has kicked off on the right foot for you all.
The mornings might be chilly this time of year, but our College remains a hotbed of activity! Not only are faculty and administrators in active recruitment mode for next year’s class of students, but our students are also hard at work—both inside and outside the classroom. For example, this week a group of SHU TV and WSOU leaders are headed to Seattle for the National Student Media Conference. Similarly, our Center for Sports Media is bringing another select group of CHDCM students to Madison Square Garden to cover Big East Media Day, the first event in our new Pirates in the Field program! We’re also looking ahead, preparing for Homecoming and Family Weekend (including two CHDCM mini-classes, as well as the SHU Theatre’s children’s show, The Wizard of Oz), followed by Msgr. Reilly’s Investiture, and then our South Jersey CHDCM Alumni Event—so there will lots to celebrate in the weeks to come!
These are just a few of the many, many things going on in our College right now, so I invite you to read on, and enjoy learning more about the talented people and amazing programs of our CHDCM community. As always, keep your own good news and event notes coming, and I wish you all a fantastic week—enjoy these sunny days, and Go Pirates!

Congratulations to Dr. Kishon Hickman on his participation in the NABLEO Training Conference! His leadership in promoting the MA, Law Enforcement Executive Leadership program is impressive, especially as it continues to build meaningful connections with departments across the U.S. and Canada. It's exciting to see the outreach efforts pay off with influential figures like Katrina Mosley agreeing to host an information session for the department. Dr. Hickman's work in advancing professional development and fostering trust within the community truly stands out. Congratulations to Dr. Hickman for continuing to build outreach and overall successes!

Congratulations to Dr. Santiago Castiello who hosted a screening and discussion of the award-winning Mexican documentary El Sembrador (the Sower) in honor of Latinx/Hispanic History Month. CHDCM members from across departments reflected on the importance of culturally responsive pedagogies and how filmmaking could be used to tell stories that resonate on a personal and cultural level.

Student Organization Highlight |
Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)
The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is a student-run subsection of the national organization, Public Relations Society of America. Our chapter here at Seton Hall is open to students of all majors. The PRSSA hosts many events including, resume workshops, LinkedIn tips, and other useful skill workshops for entering the professional world. These events can help with skills that are useful to students of all majors and we often co-sponsor with other organizations on campus. You do not have to be a paid member to come to our events, however, it is required for other aspects of PRSSA.
Within PRSSA, there are a few subjections that are available to paid members to further their public relations skills. The Litore Agency is PRSSA’s student-run PR firm that works with non-profit clients to create a campaign for their company. This is a great way for students to strengthen their professional skills and have experience with a PR internship. The Bateman competition is a year competition through PRSSA nationals in which every team from schools around the country compete on the same concept of a campaign.
We hope that you consider joining and if you are interested, please email prssa@shu.edu to be added to our email list!
