Dear parents and families,
Happy March! The weather in St Louis is finally feeling like spring, and students are enjoying spending time together outside.
In Student Affairs, we aim to create a transformational experience for your student. We are consistently assessing our work to ensure we are supporting their development and lifelong success. I want to provide some highlights from the academic year so far:
|
-
The Center for Career Engagement held 6,694 total career coaching appointments in fall 2024. 1,268 students had 2+ career coaching appointments;
- Resident advisors (RAs) engaged in 6,235 one-on-one conversations with residents;
-
87% of students reported they have learned a new healthy habit they will incorporate into their daily life;
- 82% of students are involved in a student group;
- 50% of the students enrolled in a Dialogue Across Difference course are taking a politics section.
|
Aligned with our mission to ensure your students are developing healthy habits, we are launching a Thriving Thursday series: well-being workshops to cultivate Healthy Excellence. This series will focus on the eight dimensions of well-being. Thriving Thursday will be held on March 20, March 27, April 3, April 10, April 17, and April 24 at 4:00 PM.
Lastly, with the midpoint of the semester fast approaching, I hope your student is looking forward to some rest and fun during spring break March 8 - 16. If your student will be in St. Louis during break and lives in Residential Life housing, please remind them to complete a Spring Break Housing Request. While they’re rejuvenating, I encourage them to take time to explore. Two local events your student might enjoy are Animals Aglow at the Saint Louis Zoo and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Run.
Wishing you and your student a happy spring break and we look forward to continuing a strong spring semester when classes resume after break.
Warmly,
Anna "Dr. G" Gonzalez
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

Spring Break Housing Requests
|
Spring Break is from March 8 to March 16. If your student plans to be in the residence halls or on-campus for Spring Break, they must complete a Spring Break Housing Request through their WashU Housing Portal.
Spring Break housing is provided at no additional charge. For information about dining over Spring Break, visit the Dining Services website.
|
WashU is making big changes in 2025 to better support your students and the faculty and staff who advise and teach them. Starting this spring, students will use Workday to register for classes and plan for their academic future. Learn more about these changes on Student Sunrise's website.
|
All current residential students should plan to move out of their residential space at the close of this semester. Please view Res Life's information for how your student should properly check-out of their residential space.
|
Student Affairs Division Anchor Highlight: Healthy Excellence |
We aspire to distinguish WashU as a place where students graduate even healthier than when they arrive.
|
One of the ways in which WashU promotes Healthy Excellence is through WashU Rec. WashU Rec programming includes BearFit classes and training, cooking classes, massage therapy, and more. They just launched a new South 40 BearFit class, Tread & Shred, in January. The Sumers Rec Center promotes and encourages healthy lifestyles, physical fitness, emotional and social well-being, leadership, and athletic performance.
