John Khoo and Brian Kuzera are On Call for Outstanding Customer Service
Brian Kuzera and John Khoo with the PDX Volunteer Information Program were nominated by Eliza, a PDX traveler:
"Recently two PDX volunteers teamed up with an Alaska Airlines ticket counter agent to assist a stranded passenger.
Volunteers Jon and Brian met a Punjabi-speaking passenger who missed their connection to California. Through assistance using the Language Line – and help from another passenger who spoke Punjabi – they communicated with the passenger to help solve the issue. Kristi worked hard to re-book the passenger on a flight the next morning. She also secured a hotel reservation with a voucher from Alaska Airlines. Jon and Brian escorted the passenger to the hotel shuttle, and Jon spoke with the hotel front desk by phone to be sure they were aware of the traveler’s needs and could assist if necessary.
The whole situation – and how it was resolved – was a prime example of how all of us team members at the airport can work together to help our guests who find themselves in unusual and tough-to-resolve circumstances."

What's New with PDX Next: Concourse D and Ticket Hall Work
Concourse D: Today through Friday, Nov. 1, concrete work near Gate D5 will have some access impacts. The double doors on the north side of Concourse D near Gate D3 will be closed during work hours from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bradford will use an alternate route to park and make deliveries.
Ticket Hall: Today through Wednesday, Oct. 30, crews will complete work on the east end of ticket islands 4/5 and 6/7, and terrazzo flooring will be installed. The work will take place in the closed construction area in the former central ticket lobby, but noise from floor preparation and other activities will generate periodic loud noise, odor and dust. With safety in mind, mitigation techniques will be in place to address these impacts.

Be Knowledgeable: Keeping PDX Safe and Secure
Whether you're new to PDX or celebrating many years of service, staying alert and informed on security protocols is an important part of your job. But did you know you can win $50 for doing just that? That's right, pass a challenge play or be nominated and you’ll be entered in a monthly drawing for a $50 Visa gift card!
It's all part of HAWKS (Helping Airport Workers Know Security), an airport-wide program that creates a more secure environment for everyone at PDX by enlisting the support of all badgeholders as an extra layer of security in observing and reporting suspicious activity.
Remember these key security tips:
Always display your security badge. Keep your badge visible, up-to-date and don’t allow others to use your badge. Wear your badge above the waist on your outermost garment. This ensures other PDX employees will be able to recognize you and verify you’re permitted to be in the area.
Approach anyone in a restricted area whose badge is not clearly visible. Challenging is vital because it identifies people who are somewhere they're not supposed to be. If you see someone without a visible badge in a restricted area, you're required to challenge them. Also, you must cooperate with anyone who challenges you by showing your badge. If they refuse your challenge or don’t have a valid badge, contact the PDX Communications Center at 503.460.4000. You can also call the Communications Center if you feel unsafe approaching someone.
Prevent unauthorized access. Be observant in doorways and in elevators to restricted areas and don’t allow anyone to trail behind you.
Port of Portland Investigations Specialist Paola Villegas reminds everyone of this important advice: "Report it! Report all suspicious activity to the Communications Center at 503-460-4000 and you can help keep PDX safe and secure."

GoodMaps and Aira will have staff on site to provide software demonstrations and answer questions. We’ll also highlight other resources available for airport users who are blind. Stop by any time during the event to learn about accessibility technology that the airport provides to help make PDX more inclusive.

Donation Opportunity: Warm Clothing Drive
Throughout October, the Port of Portland's Social and Environmental Equity Community (SEEC) resource group is hosting a warm clothing drive to support Cultivate Initiatives, a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting marginalized communities in East Portland. Inspired by their recent reading of "Rough Sleepers," by Tracy Kidder, SEEC wanted to recognize the power of compassion and support in building safe, opportunity-filled neighborhoods. Together, we can empower individuals through essential resources and inclusive services. Let's make a difference – your contributions matter! Dropoff locations accessible to all PDX employees can be found on the first floor of the Port of Portland HQ and on the 4th floor of the RCC, near the elevators and Security Badging office.
