2018 Primary Election May 15th
The 2018 elections are less than one week away.  How do you know if candidates support the arts? Our Nebraska Legislature Candidate Survey was sent to all filed candidates so you can learn more about their stances on arts-related issues. Our thanks to the Nebraska Art Teachers Association, Nebraska Music Educators Association and the Nebraska Speech Communications and Theatre Association for partnering on this project - candidates receive many survey requests, so we worked on making our survey easy to complete and that it would reach a broad audience of arts advocates.
Once we receive a completed survey, we post it to our Election Center and we send the candidate's response directly to advocates in their district who are registered in our VoterVoice system. Some of you have already received these. If you have not, candidate(s) in your district have not responded yet. We encourage to ask your Legislature candidates to complete the survey at this link.
In the meantime, the best way to prepare for the election is to ensure you are registered to vote. The Secretary of State has a wonderful site where you can:

  • May 14, 2018 - Last day for early voting in-person at the county clerk or election committion office
  • May 15, 2018 - Primary Election

Governor's Arts Awards Brings More than 550 to Celebration
More than 550 arts advocates, artists, educators, supporters, business leaders and elected officals attended the 2018 Governor's Arts Awards at the Embassy Suites-La Vista on May 8.
The event was emceed by humorist Juli Burney and featured peformances by songwriter Josh Hoyer (both artists happen to be members of the Nebraska Arts Council Touring Artist Roster).

Helping Arts Education Across the State During Omaha Gives
This month offers the opportunity to support Nebraskans for the Arts' (NFTA) programs that celebrate arts education - the NebraskARTS Award and our Student Spotlight.
We are a state wide organization. With an office location in Omaha, NFTA participates in the community giving initiative Omaha Gives! This online holiday takes place Wednesday, May 23, from midnight to midnight. With bonus dollars, hourly drawings and participation prizes, your donation has the opportunity to leverage additional funding.

Nebraska Artists Invited to Participate in Creating Ornaments for the Nebraska State Capitol's Holiday Tree
First Lady Susanne Shore invites Nebraska artists to design Nebraska-shaped ornaments for the Nebraska State Capitol's official holiday tree.
Nebraska artists of any age are encouraged to submit up to five design ideas/proposals (appropriate for community display) on 11" x 17" paper within a line drawing of the shape of Nebraska.
  • Project information and an outline of the state, available for downloading purposes, can be found on ne150.org/ornament
  • Designs should depict themes of Nebraska using traditional, contemporary or abstract ideas.
  • Themes can be focus on the state's diverse natural, cultural and agricultural heritage, the state's vibrant history, or a depiction of Nebraska today.
  • Artists are encouraged to use their creative talents using paint, mosaics, glass, metal, fiber, or other artistic mediums.
  • A title, brief written inspiration statement and the artist's contact informaiton should accompany each design idea.
  • Proposals will be juried and selected artists will receive a white, fiberglass blank in the shape of Nebraska, measuring 10¾ " wide x 4¾" tall.
Proposals are due by June 15, 2018. Completed ornaments should be returned on or before October 15, 2018. Artists who created ornaments for the Nebraska State Capitol's holiday tree will be invited to a reception in their honor at the Governor's Mansion, hosted by First Lady Susanne Shore.Contact Liz Shea-McCoy, Project Director at (402) 430-5923 or liz_shea@windstream.net.
