National Night Out will be celebrated in neighborhoods across the city on Tuesday, August 5. This is a great opportunity to connect with your neighbors and share a meal. Find more information about how to register an event and keep your eye out for an updated list of events in the coming weeks. My staff and I will be out all night and will make it to as many block events as we can. We'll be wearing orange-- please stop and say hi. See you in the ward!
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT- HOW IS THE CITY DOING?
Ensuring that the City does community engagement right is one of my priorities in my role as a member of the City Council's Health, Environment, and Community Engagement Committee (HECE). I have been working closely with HECE chair Council Member Cam Gordon, city staff, and community engagement experts from the Neighborhood and Community Engagement Commission to ensure that we provide residents an opportunity to weigh in on how the city can improve and deepen its engagement efforts.
I hope you can join us for two city-wide forums to discuss what an engaged community looks like for all residents!

IMPROVING THE SAFETY OF OUR STREETS
SHARE YOUR IDEAS!
When I learned that there were plans to resurface 26th and 28th streets this year, I engaged with many residents about the dangers that these streets pose, especially to our young people who cross 26th Street to use soccer fields at Stewart Park. Based on resident feedback, I worked with my council colleagues and Minneapolis' Public Works Department to put the project off for a year and proceed with a community conversation to address these concerns.
Ninth Ward residents have strong feelings and innovative ideas with respect to increasing safety and addressing livability issues along 26th and 28th streets. I hope you will join us for a series of open houses to share your thoughts about traffic calming and pedestrian and bicycle improvements on 26th and 28th Street streets in 2015. If you are unable to attend these meetings, you can also share your opinion online.
