Welcome to the inaugural edition of the Nebraska Arts Ed Dispatch. This newsletter's mission is to keep you up-to-date on news, events, and opportunities to improve the quality of arts education in Nebraska. The Dispatch is a collaborative project of the Nebraska Arts Council, Nebraska Art Teachers Association, Nebraska Music Educators Association, Nebraska Speech Communications and Theatre Association, and Nebraskans for the Arts.

NATA Fall Conference October 12-13, 2018

The Nebraska Art Teachers Association is gearing up to welcome artist, art educator and activist William Estrada from Chicago to the NATA fall conference in Kearney, NE, October 12-13, 2018. The theme of this year's conference is Art to Influence. NATA Conference Information

NMEA Annual Conference

November 14-16, 2018

Nebraska Music Educators Association's Annual Conference/In-Service Clinic will be Wednesday-Friday, November 14-16, 2018.  All-State Ensembles will occur at the same time with final concerts taking place on Wednesday, November 14 (Middle Level Barbershop Chorus) and Friday, November 16 (Jazz Band, Chorus, Band and Orchestra).  More information can be found on our website at www.nmeanebraska.org.

2018-19 Calendar: Speech, Debate, & One-Act Plays

A schedule of contests for 2018-19 is available via the Nebraska School Activities Association website. The schedule includes the dates, host site, and contacts for One-Act Play, Speech, Debate, and Junior High Speech.

Poetry Out Loud (POL) Season Sign-up Now Open

Students discover great poetry and compete for prizes in this national recitation program. Nebraska's 2018 State POL champion won a trip to Washington, DC, and $5,000 when she was named 2nd runner-up at Nationals. Visiting artists are available to assist teachers with POL and to help students develop poetry recitation skills. POL meets Nebraska ELA and Theatre Standards, and is FREE to all Nebraska high schools.  POL Nebraska website

Educator Happy Hour Celebrating National Arts in Education Week  September 13, 2018

Celebrate teachers during National Arts in Education Week. Enjoy the newest exhibition at Gallery 1516, Nebraska Regionalist, and updates on arts education initiatives by special guest, Jeff Poulin, Arts Education Manager at Americans for the Arts. Refreshments will be served.

National Arts in Education Week is September 9-15

National Arts in Education Week is a Congressionally-designated celebration of the transformative power of the arts in education. The field of arts education annually joins together to provide the tools and resources for local leaders to advance arts education in their communities.
