Giving Rise to Early Leaders
Giving Rise to Early Leaders
Launching Future CEOs
Starting this Fall, Rock The Street, Wall Street is introducing a new initiative, RTSWS Student CEOs. This leadership role will see high school students serving as RTSWS ambassadors on their campuses driving home the message on how important it is for young women to be financially knowledgeable and inviting their classmates to take a look at the exciting careers in finance.

Each high school (50+ this coming academic year!) will have two student CEO's who will serve as liaisons between the RTSWS staff, school champions and their classmates. Students submit their resume, along with a letter of recommendation and are interviewed by a member of the RTSWS programming team.  It’s a great way to develop leadership skills including:
Strategic thinking and acting
Dependability
Integrity
Self development
Team development
Civic-mindedness

We’d like to put a spotlight on two of our 2021-2022 Student CEO’s

How did you first hear about the Rock the Street, Wall Street program? What did you think of it? And why did you want to get involved?

I first found out about Rock the Street, Wall Street during my junior year through school announcements. I knew that this program would be a great fit for me because I wanted to learn more about investing and financial literacy. After looking into the program and seeing the impact that RTSWS has had on other students, I decided to become involved in my school’s chapter of RTSWS.

Why did you apply to be a Student CEO?

As someone who is very passionate about STEM as well as women empowerment, I feel that the mission of RTSWS aligns very closely with my own. RTSWS inspired me to explore the many pathways that finance has to offer. I wanted to find a way to become more closely involved in helping other girls in my community realize their potential in Finance and STEM, and I hope to spread awareness about RTSWS during my time as Student CEO.

What do you hope to get out of the program?

I am excited about the opportunity to connect and work with other Student CEOs from North America and I look forward to becoming more involved with the organization. The Student CEO initiative is an excellent leadership opportunity, and I hope to learn more about how I can strengthen my skills as a leader and communicator.

What do you hope to accomplish with your role as Student CEO?

My goal as a Student CEO is to promote financial literacy within the community by recruiting more students to help grow my school’s chapter of RTSWS. This program has taught me a plethora of valuable skills ranging from financial literacy and investing to resume building and interview tips. I hope to give others in my community the opportunity to experience this amazing initiative by spreading awareness about the program, knowing how great of an impact it could have on their outlook towards personal finance and careers in STEM.

What are your plans for the future? Would you like to get involved in the finance industry?

I am planning on attending a four-year university and studying Investment Management and Data Science. Rock The Street, Wall Street has inspired me to explore the variety of pathways that Finance has to offer, and I can’t wait to get more involved in the financial industry!

"With the help of RTSWS, we together are capable of making a difference in helping young women learn about financial literacy. We often do not learn about financial literacy in school, so having a resource like RTSWS is significant because as students, we miss out on so much information." Sally Z, Student

How did you first hear about the Rock The Street, Wall Street program? What did you think of it? And why did you want to get involved?

I learned about the Rock The Street, Wall Street program at my school club fair. I have always been set and focused on pursuing business in college so learning about RTSWS in my sophomore year was extremely beneficial for me. I did some prior research about RTSWS and found out that it was specifically for girls who are interested in pursuing finance or how to educate themselves about the topics of finance. This motivated me to get involved with the program because in society, the business and finance industries are usually seen as male dominated workplaces. I have a passion to erase that stereotype within society and create an environment within the industry that is accepting of women and women identifying individuals.

Why did you apply to be a Student CEO?

I applied to be a Student CEO for my school's Rock The Street Wall Street Program because I wanted to generate a current impact for females like me who are interested in pursuing a career in finance. I want to ensure that as young women, our opinions are heard in the workplace and that we are valued equally to males. I continue to fight for women's rights, the gender wage gap, and workplace discrimination, and RTSWS allows me to do so.

What do you hope to get out of the program?

From this program, I hope to be able to connect with more mentors and women within the finance field to gain knowledge and experience. Being in the RTSWS Spring 2021 Mentorship program, I have newly found appreciation in connecting with my peers and mentors. My mentor, Megan Stefanello, a Broadridge director, took the time to educate and unpack information from how to utilize LinkedIn to interviewing techniques. Not only did I find her advice to be extremely useful, but we were also able to bond and connect with one another. I was given the opportunity to interview Megan for a school project regarding workplace discrimination, male dominance, and other issues pertaining in the business field. Her insight throughout the interview spoke volumes to what needs to change within society and also what RTSWS stands for.

What do you hope to accomplish with your role as Student CEO?

With my role as Student CEO, I hope to recruit and encourage like minded young women to join Rock The Street, Wall Street. With the help of RTSWS, we together are capable of making a difference and helping young women learn about financial literacy. We often do not learn about financial literacy in school, so having a resource like RTSWS is significant because as students, we miss out on so much information on a day to day basis.

What are your plans for the future? Would you like to get involved in the finance industry?

I am definitely interested in getting involved in the finance industry, as it is something I feel genuine passion for. Being a part of RTSWS continuously preps me for college and my start in the industry. I hope to become successful in the investment real estate sector.
