A message from Science Alliance
Welcome to 2021! A new year bringing with it opportunities to inspire young minds and ignite curiosity in the sciences.
Our first edition of Science Alliance newsletter for 2021 explores Innovation, and how science has turned ideas into reality.
2020 was a massive year for innovation in the science community, with the COVID-19 pandemic forcing researchers across the world to adopt new ways of collaborating and doing science to accelerate our knowledge of and ability to respond to the virus from zero to the worldwide rollout of a number of vaccines in less than a year. While the crisis is far from over, the progress made toward open science will have a fundamental impact on how we do scientific research moving forward.
Last year led to a number of opportunities for innovation in the Science Alliance team, with the introduction of our
Lunchbox Science webinars and online school programs including
Virtual Kickstart and the
Grand Challenge Series, to keep us connected with our community when we could not host you in person.
We hope you enjoy this edition of Science Alliance, exploring how science has found innovations from nature in desert beetles and plants, how a pen was created that lets astronauts write in zero-g and where we could find innovation in understanding the connection that our Indigenous communities have with Country.
We hope to see you throughout this year at our virtual and (fingers crossed) in-person programs. We will keep you updated on our upcoming programs and other opportunities through the Science Alliance website and through these newsletters. We’re particularly looking forward to National Science Week, celebrating by bringing you a range of events around the theme of Food: Different by Design with the United Nations International Year of Fruits and Vegetables.
Best wishes for 2021,
The Science Alliance Team
