Dear Kanonkop Wine Friends
Winter has come and gone and the Kanonkop team is budding with excitement for the coming season. We have had good rainfall over the past few months – a promising sign for the 2020 vintage!
Many of you have been in contact with us over the last few weeks, and for one (good) reason - the release of the Cabernet Sauvignon 2015. This wine will officially be available for sale as of tomorrow – 1 October 2015.
We have kept another very exciting release under the covers for the past few months and are thrilled to be able to share this with you. It has been a project the Kanonkop team has been working on for quite some time – both in the cellar and marketing departments – and we are sure many of you will be just as excited about it as we are. We are releasing a Kadette Cabernet Sauvignon!
Cabernet Sauvignon is the second most planted grape variety on Kanonkop and plays integral roles in both the Paul Sauer and the Kadette Cape Blend. For us it made sense to give Cabernet Sauvignon on Kanonkop the place it deserves. Stellenbosch is becoming synonymous with world class Cabernet, and as a member of the Stellenbosch Cabernet Collective, we are proud to release this truly Stellenbosch grown and made Cabernet Sauvignon.

Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
This much anticipated wine from the coveted 2015 vintage, will be released from Kanonkop on the 1st October. After the amazing results achieved by the Paul Sauer 2015, the flagship Cabernet Sauvignon based blend from Kanonkop, wine lovers locally and abroad have been watching and waiting for the Cabernet Sauvignon 2015.
Planted in minerally rich granitic soils, with a subsoil of clay, the Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards are up to 30-year old trellised vineyards, which received some supplementary irrigation.
The near perfect growing conditions of 2015, which allowed for the grapes to ripen properly with no heat waves, resulted in a complex and serious wine showing layered aromas of cedar wood, blackcurrants, blue berries, tea leaves and graphite on the nose. Subtle oak spice and savoury notes add further complexity. The palate is rich and full bodied, with a great fruit and oak balance. The elegant and refined tannin structure is supported by intense flavours of cassis, tobacco and other black fruits. A lingering finish completes a true classic Cape wine!
Reviews
In a great vintage, Cabernet can stand by itself,' according to Abrie Beeslaar, and 2015 is certainly up there with the very best of them. For people who missed out on my 100-point rated 2015 Paul Sauer, this gives you an indication of why the wine is so special. Scented, polished and youthful, with the structure and acidity to age well in bottle. Drink: 2021-32. – Tim Atkin MW, 94/100
We are in the presence of greatness, a creation that is an absolute thing of vinous beauty that is certainly unrivalled in quality since the famous 2004 Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon. Architecturally, this has the shape and precision of a majestic Sir Norman Foster sky scraper that towers above its neighbours. Never over worked, never over oaked, this is surely one of the greatest single varietal Cabernet Sauvignon’s produced in South Africa. – Greg Sherwood MW, 97/100
The nose is just gorgeous with red currant and cassis to go with hints of fynbos and flowers, tea leaf and cigar box. The palate is a revelation – surprisingly medium bodied and possessing lovely energy. With pure fruit, fresh acidity and fine tannins, it really is a most seamless, elegant offering and recalls all the great Kanonkops over the decades. - Christian Eedes, 96/100
Available through our cellar door or online, at R410 incl. VAT per bottle.
