Dear Volunteers,
Happy September! We've been having a great month so far with the first weekend of Flower Piano in the books. We have one more weekend ahead of us and can't wait to see you out there! There's plenty to do after Flower Piano as well, so read ahead and join us at the Gardens this season.
|
Our second weekend of Flower Piano is just ahead, with the event coming to a close on Sunday, September 22. If you haven't joined us yet for Flower Piano, we still have a lot of open shifts and exciting opportunities available!
See below for some great shifts we still have open:
|
-
Advancement Ambassador: Positioned near the Main Gate, this role greets and thanks Members for their contribution and assists with the Flower Piano Lounge check-in process. Join our amazing Advancement team to help expedite entry and re-entry for guests!
-
Garden Greeter: Welcome all guests to Flower Piano! Located at either the North Gate or the Main Gate, you are often the first face our visitors see. Help them orient themselves and find the performances they're looking for.
-
Piano Ambassador: Either roving between Open Play pianos, or stationed near scheduled performances, this key role helps keep Flower Piano running smoothly! Help keep people out of flower beds, engage in light crowd management, and listen to the beautiful tunes as you go.
|
Along with volunteering, we hope you'll consider visiting our Flower Piano Lounge, an intimate Flower Piano experience in the Celebration Garden. In the Lounge you'll find special performances, comfortable seating and lawn games, full services bars, and delicious food from local makers.
All Members receive a 20% discount to the Flower Piano Lounge. As a treat this year, we'll be offering a 35% discount to all Flower Piano volunteers who complete their shift for the final performance with Mr. Lucky & The Cocktail Party.
We hope you'll join us for an exciting end to Flower Piano!

Garden Guide Trainings
Tuesdays, September 24 through October 22, 9:30am- 12:30pm
Join us this Fall as we train a new cohort of Garden Guides!
Who are Garden Guides? Volunteers who help welcome and engage with children at the Gardens, typically K-3rd graders visiting on school trips.
You Are:
|
-
Excited to connect with visitors to the Gardens of Golden Gate Park, particularly children and youth.
- Curious to learn about and share in the wonders of plants, conservation and the natural world.
- Open to learning and employing techniques in natural history interpretation, visitor engagement and informal science education. No previous botanical experience is required!
- Courteous and calm, even on busy days. Comfortable standing, sitting, and walking through the Gardens either outdoors or inside a tropical greenhouse.
|
Time Commitment: Garden Guides are expected to participate in 2 programs per month for at least six months, and should have weekday morning availability.
We are hoping to train up a large cohort of volunteers to help us out with the upcoming school year. Reach out to Director of Education, Annette Huddle, with any questions.

Enrichment: Interpretive Gardens Walks - Garden of Fragrance Tuesday, October 22, 1:30-3pm

Training: Roving in the Garden Thursday, October 19, 5-6:30pm
San Francisco Botanical Garden, Bookstore
Join Director of Education Annette Huddle for a late afternoon walk in the Botanical Garden and learn about the experience of being a Garden Rover. The Rover position at the Botanical Garden developed during the pandemic when gathering in groups was impossible, and now it has become a popular option for volunteers familiar with the Garden.
Rovers are typically volunteers who have trained to lead public walks, guide school groups, staff interpretation stations, or worked in other volunteer capacities that helped them develop familiarity with the Gardens. Pick up tips from current Rovers, learn how to access resources like Garden Explorer to share with visitors, and enjoy the company of other Garden volunteers.
Volunteers must complete at least four shifts in any role at the Gardens prior to roving solo.

Flower Piano had an incredibly first weekend. With 78 volunteers joining us, we welcomed over 28,000 attendees over the first three days of the festival!
At the Japanese Tea Garden, construction on the Pagoda Plaza is moving forward with the permeable pavement being poured last week! Fence work is underway along the Sunken Garden Path, which will pull a small grove of dawn redwoods, a mature magnolia, and view of a coastal redwood grove into the Garden.

Thank you for everything you do for the Gardens! We hope you're taking time to enjoy Flower Piano and all the offerings it brings. See you out there.
Warmly,
Jenn
