Dear Campus Community,
I am excited to share fantastic news! Valparaiso University has received its first National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant as the lead organization!
This achievement is thanks to Dr. Patrice Bouyer, associate professor of biology, whose R15 AREA (Academic Research Enhancement Award) application has been funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. The project, titled "Gut Clearance Regulation and Its Subversion by Candida albicans," has been awarded $318,554 over the next three years. This grant will support Professor Bouyer’s research, a lab technician, two student research assistants, and cover essential equipment and supplies.
“The grant represents a great professional achievement that recognizes the extraordinary work and dedication of all my research students from Valpo and Ivy Tech,” says Dr. Bouyer. “It opens new research venues, opportunities for students to learn new techniques, present their work at regional/national meetings and co-authors peer reviewed publications.”
Professor Bouyer’s success not only sets the stage for future research funding but also opens the door to more NIH-funded projects at Valpo. Congratulations to Professor Bouyer on this incredible milestone!
Sincerely,
Kevin Goebbert ‘03, Ph.D.
