Meet Darian Johnson Potts
Academic advisor, School of Computing and Engineering
Why do you choose to work at UMKC?
I enjoy the students that I get to interact with. I like being a resource and being able to assist them with the completion of their academic goals. It’s wonderful to watch their growth and transformation, not only as students, but as human beings.
Tell us about an accomplishment you are proud of.
I ran my first marathon in 2017. It was an exciting experience, but also frightening. I loved being able to see parts of Kansas City that I don’t get to see every day. A lot of my family and friends were there to support me, and for many of them that was the first race of mine that they’d ever been to. To this day it’s probably the accomplishment I’m most proud of. It was a lot endure physically, but I think it was even more so mentally and emotionally.
What is your dream vacation destination?
I don’t know the actual destination yet. I’d like to one day trace my family lineage. I think it’d be an amazing experience to spend 5-7 days travelling and learning about the history and culture of my ancestors.
